Not even worth it. I've argued this before and just get about 2/3 jump on me saying that he limits our play. Despite scoring 20 goals a season apparently.
I know. Although the exemplar of consistency in that he puts the ball in the back of the net, apparently he's not good enough for us as he's not enough of a team player.
I've seen enough of us this season to see that, often, what we miss is someone to get on the end of the raft of chances which we create. All this gibberish about needing a striker who is a teamplayer is a bit of a red herring; it's important if you struggle to create, but we have - quite simply - one of the most creative midfields in the entire league. That's why we create so much; wide left, wide right, through the middle.
The problem is thus: if you are forever wanting a striker to drop deep and link-up with play, y'know - all that fancy brick ... then you run the serious risk of play advancing ahead of said striker, so much so that he's not actually there to apply the finish which is required from all the pretty lead-up, tippy-tappy brick. That's our problem.
Give me a poacher like Darren Bent - in this creative team - any day. I don't really care if he pitches a tent in the 18-yard box for 89mins of the game - just as long as he comes out for 1min and cooly slots a chance or two away. Goals - often very under-rated.
