*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Scum OMT ***

i'd take that gladly

hope Kane is ready and he's not been rushed just for this

I have a feeling he has been. Something tells me had we not seen the performance/result we did on Weds, he would not be starting today, possibly on the bench. But I think Weds night has forced Pochettino's hand.
Still think we are starting 4-2-3-1. But I suppose we wont know until 12

I think the fact that we can revert at any time to our usual formation without even making a sub negates this 'whole new formation' anyway.

I think Conte will have had an impact on Poch's thinking. 4231 with high pressing became very vogue and now even teams like Bournemouth can play it, negating the advantage.

A good way to counter a high press is to play with 3 at the back, which gives more passing options to players under pressure in the defence and still allows the fluidity of attackers in the forward position.

I think it's a great move from Poch, and shows he is adaptable to changing trends and is willing to learn. The 4231 was always supposed to be a more flexible formation than 442, but with teams like Chelsea figuring out a new way to stand out, 4231 becomes rigid.

Up for this now. Wenger has always been about playing their game well so they will still create chances, but there is a good chance that our change in formation creates enough uncertainty among their players that they struggle.

In addition, I think our performance against Everton, playing against 3 at the back and really struggling until we brought Jansen on probably gave Poch food for thought. 343 really helps isolate teams playing with a loan striker. I just hope our defenders today can cope with the fluidity of arsenal's attackers, that they know who and when to track at the right times.

until the hard headed gooner decides to change things - which does do

I liked the team until BT just said Poch said its 3 at the back!
FFS.

The problem with 3 at the back is it takes away a player to support Kane.

Lloris
Walker Dier Wimmer Vertonghen Rose
Wanyama Dembele
Eriksen Son
Kane

Another problem with 3 in the back is which of the 3 is going to organise a new defensive shape.

We are just going to invite them on to us.

I wish it was Dier and Wanyama in the middle.

Dier or Verts will be striding out into midfield. More or less as we normally play. Lots of potential for FBs to get forward too.

3-5-2....always requires quality wing backs and Danny and walker fit that requirement perfectly.

Tbh they both play that way anyway, also last year Dier would spend a lot of time dropping between the two ch , admittidely when we were in possession only.

I'll take a point. Three would exceptionally good given recent form.

It is good to see Kane back, although it is a tough game to return in, so I hope he really is 100% fit. I might have started Janssen and brought on Kane later, as I think we need to make sure the ball doesn't just keep coming back and while Janssen has struggled with goal scoring, he hangs on to the ball well

It's not clear how the changes at the back/DM have been affected by Alli being out, but I wish Poch had given Wimmer a run out as CB in a previous game, rather than dropping him in the NL derby. It is a tough ask, as it can take a few games to get in sync as defensive unit.

I'm glad Dier is DM, but I'm not a fan of the Dier/Wanayama pairing as it doesn't provide an effective link between defence and attack. We end up too defensive, not getting the ball forward quickly enough and with too much possession in our own half or on or near the halfway line. Injuries mean that the DM/CM is a bit of a problem -but hopefully Winks will get on with more than 5 minutes to play.

It will be an interesting game. I think they may have bit too much for us, because our injuries, but you never know with a NLD. COYS.

Alli getting injured yesterday is a big big loss for us. These are the kind of games where Alli shines, and gives us that extra bit of bite and aggression. Him and Lamela are gonna be missed badly. The others really need to step it up big time today if we want to get any sort of result.
