*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Scum OMT ***

The 3 at the back might simply be to try to free our full backs up. THey're fundamental to our attack so a back 3 and Wanyama and Dembele in midfield gives a very solid core to the team

Hope its not 3 at the back for this one. The risk being we lose, the formation is blamed, and the experiment gets abandoned . It should definitely be one for this season though.

I succumbed. I'm at the pub. Whatever the score, it's the NLD, I can't miss it. Even double shirted for 'luck'. Lloris home goalkeeper shirt & the black and yellow away kit from couple of seasons back.

Yes, we'll probably lose, yes it probably won't be pretty to watch but I have lily white blood in my veins. COYS!

I think Conte will have had an impact on Poch's thinking. 4231 with high pressing became very vogue and now even teams like Bournemouth can play it, negating the advantage.

A good way to counter a high press is to play with 3 at the back, which gives more passing options to players under pressure in the defence and still allows the fluidity of attackers in the forward position.

I think it's a great move from Poch, and shows he is adaptable to changing trends and is willing to learn. The 4231 was always supposed to be a more flexible formation than 442, but with teams like Chelsea figuring out a new way to stand out, 4231 becomes rigid.

Up for this now. Wenger has always been about playing their game well so they will still create chances, but there is a good chance that our change in formation creates enough uncertainty among their players that they struggle.
I think he should have tried it 5 games ago with less intimidating sides. Poch should have been braver then. Asking a lot from the players, I won't blame them if they can't cope with a new formation against a top team on form.

Missed Poch interview. How did Alli get injured? What is nature of injury?
As if we weren't struggling with creativity enough..typical.

I don't think Poch is that weak, he'll play whatever formation he wants to play regardless of whatever blame other people assign to a result.

The orange training/warm up kit looked way too red just now. Little bit of sick came up in my mouth :(

It's about creating strategic advantage. If we match Arsenal for formation when we're out of form and ravaged by injuries, we lose this game no doubt. Doing 3 at the back now is a gamble, but we would have lost this game had we not tried something. The risk of failing to adapt ourselves is played off against confusing an in form team.

We didn't try this 5 games ago because we didn't know there was a problem 5 games ago.

It's not always about being weak, if you get the press on your back, and various experts chipping in, it can be easy to sow the seeds of doubt. For a manager of a team that is doing relatively well there is little incentive to change things, the risks of the new, often outweigh the safety of the status quo. Especially, when it is your salary, reputation, family life etc at stake. That's why managers often only change things when they are forced to.
