The youth players/on-loan thread 2014-2015

U17 European Championships started today, If anyone fancies watching Ismail Azzaoui then Belgium are playing Germany on Eurosport, kick off at 5.

Marcus Edwards scored within two minutes of coming on for England in their opening u17 championship game to give them a 1-0 win over Italy.

Cool! Good to see him get a chance at that level and take it.

Seems small physically, probably not going to see a loan or much U21 action for him next season?

Yeah, he's one we need to be careful/patient with, he'll more than likely be the most gifted player on the pitch in any game he takes part in but he can be overwhelmed physically. He'll be playing full time for the u18s next season. There are some players like Onomah who should be pushed and pushed as he can cope physically as well as technically with anything that's thrown at him but he does have a tendancy to drop off when it's too easy for him.

Think I mentioned earlier in this thread that my nephew new Marcus quite well. His dad is really focused on his son's football and I imagine a very positive influence.

I've been wondering. Is it better to keep players like Onomah and Winks, who have already made their senior debut around the 1st team or would it be better for them to get a loan deal in??

Very difficult judgement call to make. I trust the club to make a solid decision either way, but it probably depends both on who we manage to sell and buy in the summer and how they do in pre-season, and of course which teams come in for them for a loan deal.

The EL does change things a bit. Chance to give players like Onomah and Winks 6 EL group stage games. Another 1-2 league cup games and a PL appearance or two thrown in. All of a sudden 8+ starts and a handful of sub appearances in the first half of the season without having to break through properly in the PL.

Would love to see either involved next season. But a loan deal might be just as good an opportunity for development.

What with Poch saying the Europa league is a strain, we will more than likely play the kids in the Europa and if it was upto me i would not have any senior players anywhere near the squad.

I think Winks should go on loan, he's a quality little player who you could plug into any league/team and he'd perform well, the experience would be good for him. Onomah I'm not so sure of in that regard, I think he's a bigger talent but him going to a lower league side would be like driving a Ferrari around town, it doesn't quite fit. He doesn't have the fighter/scrappy attributes of a lower league player but he does have the quality to mix it in the Premier League right now IMO, the top level is a more sophisticated game and one that I think he's much more suited to. There's a risk that we could send him to League One/Two and he'd find himself not "getting it" and maybe knock his confidence and development as a result.

U21s beat Fulham 2-0, Maghoma and Harrison with their first goals at this level. Alex Pritchard played the 90 minutes for Brentford in the 1st leg of their playoff tie, Fredericks missed the game through injury.

Thought Pritchard had a quiet night, although Middlesborough really did clamp down on the amount of space he could get. Hopefully the second leg will see a better performance.

U18s lost 3-2 to Villa, Ryan Loft with our goals. Highly rated Jack Roles made his first appearance at that level after scoring 25 goals from central midfield for the u16s this season. He's one of a number of talented players who will be moving up to the u18s next year.

Cheers Yoof!

Do you know anything else about Roles? Haven't seen anything written about him as far as I can remember.

Not much beyond the basics, he started as a #10 but because of the attacking talent we have in the u16s he moved deeper but has still managed 25 goals this season, he's been at the club since he was very young much like the rest of his age group. Other attacking talents who will be moving up to the u18s next season include Keanan Bennetts, Sam Shashoua, Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling.

The players I like the most are Glover, Carter-Vickers, Walker-Peters, Amos and Onomah. Those from Tanganga and below are u16s so too early to include them although I'm sure most are aware of Edwards and Sterling. I didn't realise Roles had made one other appearance before yesterday. Shashoua's single appearance was pretty spectacular, he'd just finished an u16s game and was invited to play the final 15 minutes for the u18s, he came on, scored and set up another.

Some cracking names there. Full marks to Zenon(!) Stylanides.

The "must try harder" award goes to Armarni Daly. Oh dear.
