It’s a strange one. If you ask any fan (rabid or casual) they’ll say yeah of course you should negotiate between windows and have them lined up ready when the window opens.

So I find it hard to believe that those who’s job it is, those who are paid handsomely to do this, haven’t thought about this.

I’m no expert but there’s clearly got to be more to this judging by how few deals happen on day 1 of the window compared to the rest of the window

I think there is an element of trying for players in form. We know there's a list of players of interest and an analysis of how we think they will fit. You want to get players in who you have plan for, whether it's to have an impact straight away or a develop role.

You might be edging your bets, waiting until the last moment to check that the player matches up to what you expect?

I'm sure I read somewhere we'll get half the fee he's sold for. It's that sort of territory anyway, so hopefully something like £6-8m
