The race for 86 points

I'd like to see it put down to top 2 from the top leagues plus 1 from second tier leagues with play-offs for the rest. No more than 24 teams. Means that the Europa/UEFA/whatever would get more importance too, like it used to have.

They both need restructuring

"Champions" means it should be a Cup winners cup, winners of domestic league +2 domestic cups, maximum of 3 teams from each country. That way, even top clubs aren't guaranteed a spot in every season and you would get the odd wild card. Two leg knockout. It would vastly improve value/credibility of domestic cups

Europa could be a "league" where you qualify via league position, and there you could have 2nd-4th place teams (would include a lot more high profile teams including the Barca's/Madrid's/etc.), alternatively you could use co-efficient over 3 years if you want to keep status quo of teams in. (This would effectively create the European super League people have talked about), If you wanted to be really stupid, teams could be in both.

That season Saudi Sportswashing Machine went down they had some crazy bad luck with injuries according to that graphic on the previous page.

So, who's volunteering to go and explain to UEFA that they're likely to miss out on hundreds of millions in TV revenue as a result of this change, and the accompanying likelihood of the big boys being knocked out by Bessarabian League Cup Winners FC Mostar in a two-legged tie? :p

I would love for this to happen from a sporting perspective, but the money involved now makes it impossible from a realistic standpoint, sadly.

what if we tell them it's about sovereignty?

The current CL format is also a way to appease the big clubs who wanted a breakaway league. I can't see it changing any time soon.

If you give me some brown envelopes and a massive expenses budget.........I'm up for going?

Bang on, the "bigger" clubs wanted a super league and to leave all the " smaller " clubs behind. Now there are rumbles about trying to make the CL ( farce lge) for the major nations and just the bigger clubs. The game stinks.

Must remember "It's a business" any thought of sportsmanship, fairness, integrity and out dated fans (lower income) want count for nothing. Officials in football have always been out of touch with the grass roots but stumbled along, now there is big money and the spivs are running the game. The same will happen with cricket where they are taking a game of multiple skills and strategy into the game I use to play in the street "hit and run" because they sell more beer.

Business rules. It was much more exciting as a knock out competition and viewer figures are falling because people are bored watching the same teams playing each other constantly. So what will happen? it will be rejigged again...and again rinse repeat.

Shame United couldn't put that tie to bed tonight. If it weren't for Chelsea being Mourinho's former club they'd be sending out the kids at the weekend.

Some nice gaps opened up and one big one closed, for a day at least

8pts clear of Liverpool with 6 to go
Minimum of 7pts clear of City even if they win their game in hand
Minimum 8pts clear of United in 5th
But as United v City is a game in hand, one of those if not both, is going to get better
And of course
Minimum 11pts clear of Arsenal with 6 to go
