The race for 86 points

Even if we do win all our remaining PL games, which is highly unlikely despite our great form IMO, Chelski still need to drop 7 points in 7 games:

Manure (A)
Southampton (H)
Everton (A)
Boro (H)
WBA (A)
Sunderland (H)
Watford (H)

Manure and Everton really are the only tricky fixtures there, but I see Chelski as favourites in both games. At best, that'll be two draws and the gap reduced to 3 points (if we defy gravity and win the last seven games).

Watford are tinkle poor, Boro and Sunderland agree likely to be relegated when they play Chelski, which leaves Southampton and WBA. Who have nothing to play for.

Really, if we somehow win this, that'll be the first time someone came second in a one horse race. It will have to be an epic collapse from Chelski, basically.

Palace was a banker hime win too don't forget

And costs is having his regular second half of the season blip

You man mark Hazard and kick him enough he tends to disappear in games (like against us). You stop hazard an they then struggle for anyone else to get goals/create

Don't hate me wrong the will win it but it's not forgone yet

The way we are playing I can't see us screwing up a top 4 place. Form can however change in the blink of an eye. If we were to lose a couple in a row then I could see the same doubts from last season creeping in.

Think we need to wrap it up before the last game of the season. If we were to go into the last game of the season level on points with Arsenal and United for example or even 2 points above them, I could see us blowing it. That scenario shouldn't happen given how we're playing though.

On game at a time should be the approach Poch and the team take of course;

As a fan, i truly believe if we beat Bournemouth we will seal top 2 (or top 3 at the very least)

I think we need to beat Bournemouth and then pick up another 10 points for top 2. Liverpool wouldn't be able to top that even if they won every game they have left (their max is 81) unless there was a massive GD swing. With City and UTD still having to play eachother, we know that one of them won't be making it to their max total (82 and 81 respectively). The same goes for Arsenal (also with a max point total of 81).

We could probably get away with only picking up 8-9 points from the last 7 games, so long as we at least draw with Arsenal and UTD. Both of them drawing against us would guarantee one of them, if not both picking up no more than 77 points, at best one of them might still manage 79.

Even if ManUre and the Goons win their games in hand, we'll still be 8 points clear of 5th with massively superior goal difference... just need to continue taking every game as it comes... and hope that our rivals slip-up...

^Liverpool has an easy run-in. We have 3 London derbies in the league with 2 away. We need to win 3 of the remaining 6 games to hold top 4.

Who do you want to finish in the top 4? Obviously Spurs and, although I'm not taking it for granted, we're in a strong position to do so. Whether you want them to or not it' s inevitable that Chelsea will and we can probably assume that Everton won't. Of the other 4 teams in contention which would you prefer to see take the other 2 places?

I want ManU and Liverpool to fail and Wenger to stay. That would be funniest IMO.

Assuming we beat Bournemouth we'll be on 71 points.

United would need to win 5 of their last 8 just to reach 72 points.
Arsenal need to win 6 of their last 9 just to reach 72 points.

I think Bournemouth plus 1 more win will give us nailed on top 4. I am start to look up the way now although its a tall order to catch Chelsea.

I'd want United to pip Arse and Pool. United will always have the resources to buy themselves into the CL, and will always attract players. If Arse and Pool miss out on CL for a couple of seasons, they won't be as attractive to players, and we'll overtake them. Without CL, they don't have the massive resources and pull that United will always have. I can see Arse having a bit of a crisis if they don't get into the CL now.

^agreed.

We cannot compete with the behemoth that is ManU and haven't enabled cheat-mode like €iteh and Chav$ki.

However, without the CL money for getting knocked out in first knockout round every season, the Goons would be at least £25million worse off a year. So we could be right on their and Liverpool's coattails financially when the new stadium is paid for.

Meaning we can afford to offer Southampton's star attacker the type of wages plus level of competition that Liverpool won't be able to match, leaving them to speculate on the rough diamonds next time around...

I think Liverpool missing out is the most important as we're closest to catching up with them financially. They are massively overspending on wages and I don't think their owners are the type that will happily cover any deficits.

Am I right in thinking that, if ManU and Leicester win the Europa and CL but both finish outside the top 4, it'd mean 4th place not getting CL football?

If so, I'll take that, with either Arsenal or Liverpool in 4th. Don't mind which. If Arsenal, it'd be a wonderfully ironic way for Wenger to bow out -- getting his 4th place trophy yet again but it being utterly worthless. If Liverpool, it'll be YEARS before they stop moaning about it.

EDIT: Although it'd be equally good if ManU and Leicester didn't win anything this season. Win-win!

This, with the goons and Pool in the EL to bugger up next season.
