Belgium knocking it about, then losing it in dangerous positions. Recipe for disaster and the kind of opposition Hodgson's England will thrive against.

Belgium trying to go through the middle the whole time, no overlap by their full backs. Verts is never a left back.

What's your general impression of him? He seems honest, professional, solid even accomplished passing, ok with the ball at his feet. Somehow reminds me of a beefed up Dawson.

He's playing well but he offers Belgium nothing going forward when they need an overlapping full back to help break England down.
I liked when he took control of the defence when Simons fudged up, he stepped into the central position and ordered Vermaelen to cover his spot temporarily. We need a talker on the pitch like that in the team.

TBF playing England at Wembley, They may have told their full backs to be more solid, esp first half. Bit unfair to judge his overlapping skills on one half

Its England not Spain. Belgium dominated the first half. No reason why the full backs shouldn't be pushing up.

Vertonghen; a CB being asked to play out of position at LB... no WONDER Harry's shown an interest!!!

Poor Defoe, Rooney is going to miss the first two games but he still comes on before Defoe. I guess Defoe will get about 15 or 20 minutes and if he does not score people will throw his lack of goals at international level in his face, the fact that he hardly ever plays 90 minutes is never ever mentioned

Vertonghen stays on his feet when defending, is excellent with one on ones

Loads of journos/newspapers on twitter going on about Rooney being vice captain. What is the big fudging deal about who wears the armband? Every other country in the world they just give it to one of the most experienced players and you don't hear a peep about it.

Things i learnt today..

Hazard looked nothing like a 30m player

Vertonghen would be decent cover for BAE

Glen johnson is really really brick in the attacking third

England have very little creativity (Two chances in the first 80 mins were from mistakes by defenders)
