The Official 2014/15 Premier League Thread

Something could be 100% a foul going by the rules, but if it goes unpunished in 99% of cases and all of a sudden one is given as a foul that's not the one time the ref got it right. It's the one time he got it wrong.

so therefore would you say that some offenses that are fouls in the middle of the pitch are not when they occur in the penalty box? as 99% of the time this is how the game is officiated, and would deviating from officiating a game in this manner be a mistake by the referee?

Yes.

If 25+ similar offenses that would have been a free kick in the middle of the pitch are not given as penalties and then all of a sudden one is I think there's something wrong.

I don't think there's something inherently wrong in a ref just being that little bit more sure about a penalty than a free kick in the middle of the pitch. The consequences are much bigger after all. It' a problem when it's given for some and not for others though.

Pen Sunderland. Johnson dived. West Ham players disgusted, but you don't put your hands on someone in the penalty area.

Gomez scores.

Sunderland defenders backing off. Downing eventually shoots. Takes a deflection, touches the keeper's hand and goes in. Two goals worthy of a Tottenham defence.

Altidore is utterly useless.

@ Naymer and Braineclipse:

Spammers Tomkins foul on Sunderland's Johnson - another soft penalty to be mass debated ?

Soft forearm touch to the back and Johnson goes down ....It's just a touch , no way enough to knock the winger over but the winger goes down... Dowd says penalty ...I agree with the ref ..

He really is ... One goal in 40 odd games ...missed a sitter just before half-time ..

Not watching, but seems like Foy does not have the balls to send off a Chelsea player

And has now given Thudd his marching orders instead

Diego Costa £32m 12 appearance 11 goals 39 shots

Lamela £25.8 + 4.2 15 appearances 0 goals 17 shots
Soldado £26m 9 appearances 1 goal 17 shots
Kane Not very much. 11 appearances 2 goals 22 shots

Makes for depressing reading.

Just seen the Gary Cahill dive on danish telly

No contact at all, just flies like Peter Pan through the air

The refs really are scared of upsetting the big Jose
