Mouth of the south does it again !!!

Wojciech Szczesny claims Arsenal’s strong finish to the campaign proves they can compete for the Premier League title next season.

The Gunners have won nine of their last 10 League matches and can move eight points clear of fourth-placed Tottenham with victory over Wigan at Emirates Stadium tonight.

Arsenal made their worst start in 58 years but have recovered to reach exactly the same points tally as at this stage last season and Szczesny believes the turnaround can provide a platform for success in the future.

“It gives you a lot of confidence that we can compete for titles,” he said. “Last season we finished poorly and you take it into the start of the new season — our start this time wasn’t very good either.

“So we hope to finish strongly and take the momentum into the start of next season and, hopefully, continue forward throughout the campaign.

“I think the team spirit has turned our season around. We’ve stuck together and worked hard at the training ground after such a poor start.

“The results were going to come our way sooner or later.

“We kept fighting for each other and we are getting the credit we deserve now. Also I think the Tottenham game [which Arsenal won 5-2] was the turning point — it came a little bit too late but since that game the atmosphere at the club has changed dramatically and it has helped us to get the results.”

Arsenal’s improved defending has been key to their resurgence and last Wednesday’s 3-0 victory at Wolves was their fifth clean sheet in seven games.

Laurent Koscielny is suspended while Kieran Gibbs is doubtful due to a groin problem, meaning Johan Djourou and Andre Santos are set to deputise in defence. In recent weeks the situation has eased, allowing a more settled back four to find some cohesion.

“I don’t think it has ever been a question of quality in our defending — we just haven’t been consistent, plus we have had a lot of injuries,” added the Polish goalkeeper.

“We had to rotate a lot in defence throughout the season and it’s hard.

“It’s important you get to play a few games throughout the season with the same back four and you get used to playing with each other. That’s been the case in the last few weeks and you can see the results.

“Everywhere in our defence we have players who are one of the best in the division so if we can play for a long time together and not get any injuries then I can see this defence being one of the best in the League.”

If this doesn't motivate our lads to fudging win against QPR, then nothing will, and all their wives should be rounded up and driven to John Terry's house in disgrace.
