The Lane, The Finale

Ah Kevin Scott...I remember a 1-0 loss at Coventry the day after Cobain died where he scored the own-ly goal and many of us genuinely started to fear relegation. Then came Sideways saving us at Oldham away...
Oh man, what a memory. I was there. I grew up near Coventry so quite a lot of people supported Coventry... I was proud to go against that and support Spurs. In 1987 I was 13 and we had a great team. We faced Coventry in the FA Cup Final and I was sure we would win, so excited, couldn't wait... told everyone we would win, there was no way this fantastic Spurs team would let me down. Watched all the build up for hours in my front room... then Spurs let me down.

Seven years later I was a huge Nirvana fan and I got tickets to see them at Wembley, around May time, couldn't wait, I'd never been to Wembley, so excited... then Curt got ill in Rome... then killed himself on April 5th, the day before my 20th birthday... so gutted.

So I went to the Coventry Spurs game on 9th April 1994 to cheer myself up. I joined a poxy crowd of 14,487 to sit and watch a really dire performance. Again I was sure we could win. The only thing of note was Kevin Scott's bungling efforts to give them a penalty, and Peter Ndlovu scoring it.

I went home so disappointed, disillusioned, tired of Spurs... we ended up 15th that year, 6 points behind Cheatski in 14th, three points away from relegation. Utd won the league with 92 points.

Man we were bad. But soon we would surge up the table and overtake Cheatski, right? Right?

We've all suffered SO much over the years.

Not that I care for such things personally, but in case anyone here might be interested. The Norwegian Spurs fan club is hosting a legends night at The Savoy Tup pub in London (close to Holborn, Covent Garden) the night before our final match against Manure. Micky Hazard and Graham Roberts will be there talking about memories of the Lane, thoughts on the current team, the future and so on.

Google translate and you'll figure it out.

I guess I'll be there since I'm sharing a room with one of the board members.

Responsible for a fantastic away day moment up at Newcash. Shown onto his right foot, he proceeded to fire a 25 yard bender into the top right-hand corner from the left! Fantastic! Remember his penalty area step-overs? In OUR penalty area that is...

As good as that goal and those stepovers were, I'll always remember his hilarious substitution at Stamford Bridge during the 0-0 in 2004. I think they made a 4 hour epic film about it starring Charlton Heston.

It was the day Jose brought the phrase "parking the bus" into popular use. He was spitting nails that day. Little did we know at that stage what a blatant show of hypocrisy it was.

I remembered Scott was responsible forgot it was a pen? Yeah. A miserable few days...

Do we know how it's going to work next weekend? Will all the legend be doing a lap of honour with the team after the match? Anything before the match may distract.

It would be a distraction to do anything before the match imo. And given that most people get to their seats no more than 10-15 minutes before kick-off, it would be a bit of a waste.
Maybe something at half time, but I'd imagine it will all be part of the after match entertainment.
Apparently the walk-in tunnel tours the club are doing this week do not start until this afternoon today, due to a 'pitch event' in the morning. Possibly some kind of rehearsal for whatever is planned next week?

Sol Campbell deserves to be invited to attend Tottenham’s final fixture at White Hart Lane for his services to the club, according to his former agent.

Tottenham play their final fixture at White Hart Lane on May 14 when they host Manchester United.

A number of former players and managers have been invited to the stadium for the farewell, but Campbell will not be there.

Some would say that makes perfect sense due to the acrimonious nature of his 2001 exit to Arsenal, and his status as a ‘Judas’ in the eyes of supporters but, as Sky Andrew, his agent at the time points out, he is Sol Campbell.

“I would like to see him invited. Spurs are a fantastic club – they’re doing great – they’ve probably got the best [starting] 11 in the world,” Andrew told talkSPORT.

“It would be great for him to be there for the last game at the Lane and for everybody to finish on a good note.

“It’s not Sol’s fault that he left on a free.

“You cannot place all the responsibility on the player. The other side have to dance to the tune as well and negotiate something.

“It’s impossible for a player to see out his contract, or it should be. You cannot blame the player. No-one should look at Sol.

“What happened, and this happens at a lot of clubs, is you get a player who absolutely fulfils his potential at a club.

“Then there’s a problem if the club isn’t fulfilling its potential as well.

“I can tell you it was such a difficult decision for Sol. He refused to speak to any club. January, February, March, he refused to speak to any club.

“No club in Europe can say that Sol Campbell agreed to speak to them because he wanted to sort out his situation with Spurs. At that time he was only thinking of staying at Spurs.

“In the end he thought his aspirations were elsewhere.”

I personally don't want him anywhere near whl or the new stadium when it's built. Does anyone think he should be invited

And then he signs up with Arsenal. Does this clown listen to himself?
