The Future Squad

Are we bummed that Zaniolo is about to sign for... Galatasaray ffs?

Not really, I was only interested in him from the pov that he was someone Paratici/ Conte must have wanted, if he ends up going to Gala then i would assume we must have ultimately decided against it

Obviously, but we don't care what Conte wants. What only matters is what we want. :p

My perspective

To stay
- Starters -> Kane, Son, Deki, Bentancur, Romero, Porro (likely), Perisic
- Squad depth -> Davies, Royal, Dier, Bissouma, Skipp, Richarlison, PEH, Danjuma
- Develop/evaluate -> Gil, Sarr, Spence, Udogie
- Next generation -> Scarlett, Devine, White

To go
- Sanchez, Sess (sorry, I know some will react), Tanganga, Lloris (can stay if he is ok being #2), Lucas, Lo Celso, Winks, Ndombele, Rodon, Lenglet (?)

Summary
- We have about 7 core starters
- We have about 8 squad players with additional 4 promising
- So 19 players plus backup GK
- Short #1 GK, 2 CBs and maybe a LWB (Udogie?)
- Add the 4 short plus 19 plus backup GK and you have a squad of 24.

So the window would need to look like 9+ out, 3+ in

Might be a case of Roma being obstinate and not dealing with us as he didn't take the move they wanted if Bournemouth were offering more, but now his position with the fans and manager is untenable Galatasary are the only option to save them paying wages and watching his value drop by not playing.

Might still end up being a 6 month move with a buy out clause we can trigger (As someone else had said, on the proviso he remains a top target of Conte's)

Turkey does seem indicative of a career negative spiral though...

+Reggie in the to go category as can't see him reintegrating with Conte. I'm with you on Sess I just don't see him kicking on here.

Need a RWF squad option this summer i would say and that's assuming we make Danjuma permanent for on the left otherwise another in required there

Buy-out clause is 35 mil euros and he's on a long-term contract at Galata. They paid 22 mil for him. But you're right about negative career spiral, especially at his age. Interesting that no other team went in for him either, other than Bournemouth.

Perisic shouldn't be a starter and needs replacing, hopefully by Udogie.
Unless Son starts to return to form before the seasons over then we have to accept he needs replacing too, possibly by Danjuma or Richy.
We're not going to replace 5 starters with new signings so hopefully a couple of the signings from the last couple of windows step up.

I wouldn't write him off quite yet. Let's see how he does on his current loan spell and if he strengthens over the summer.

Not writing him off as a player but i think he needs regular first team football to develop, he won't be getting that here and so i think the decision will be made to loan him so he can get the football he needs.

Can you imagine, the greatest forward of all time, in our team, and we'd have Messi on the bench to give him a rest.

To be fair, the Argentinian is the greatest footballer ever, and Lionel would be delighted to get to wear the same shirt as his idol Erik.

Sit on the same bench too.

Similar to Gil i think Sarr maybe should be considered for a loan move - get a loan in to cover/compete as a 4th choice CM and then bring Sarr back in the following season (hopefully) ready to push for a starting place. A second year with only a handful of minutes, which i think will happen under Conte, would potentially stunt his development.

All well and good signing these youngsters but unless they are going to get significant playing time we have to think about their development.

If we miss out on CL then we could defer that decision until the January window tbf

Agreed. I think a year here with limited game time, but training well, having quite a bit of competitive games in him already can be fine. Two years is perhaps too much.

The situation is what it is. Conte trusts younger players less the than some other managers will. Unless Conte thinks he will show real trust in a player I think the preferred strategy should be to get loans for our best young players that need it rather than having them around as a backup backup option.

Yes, agreed. Same applies for Gil, Skipp, Sarr in the same was as Sess last year to an extent Udogie (though the loan was probably a condition of signing him)

Maybe Sarr and Skipp get loaned out for half a season each and sign an experienced pro to cover them. Both have had such little football this year that you'd imagine they'd be pushing for a loan this summer too

This is where I'm at in terms of hopes for next season now:

----------------------------------Lloris/Henderson

Porro(Spence/Royal)------Romero(Dier)-----Ndicka(Edwards)----Udogie(Davies)

-----------------------Bentancur(Sarr)--------Bissouma(Skipp)

Kulusevski(Gil)----------------Kudus(Scott)--------------------Son(Danjuma)

-------------------------------Kane/Richarlison
