The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

Someone asked Jetset on Chadli, his response was "you'll have to wait a week". People seem to think he's saying we're waiting on Bernard(as the Libertadores ends in 10 days).

Bernard would be awesome.

If we signed him (and Benteke I suppose), I'd be happy if we didn't make another signing for 2 years (other than directly replacing Bale).

Sounds too good to be true though, we've been here before plenty of times.

Wouldn't Bernard be a big risk anyway for the sort of price quoted?
He's quite a slight player and Tim Vickery said he found the pace and physical side of the game quite a culture shock to his system when he played against England.
Funnily enough Vickery also said at that time that he thought Paulinho was tailor-made for the PL and thought it was strange that there didn't seem to be many PL clubs watching him at the time;)

That's a load of gonads though isn't it? First of all he played about five minutes. Second of all it was a frigging friendly played at a snail's pace, it was also in Brazil where they dictated the tempo of the game so I'm not sure how he found that to be a culture shock. As for him finding the pace of it a shock, he was the quickest player on the field. Tim Vickery sems to just play this same "little players will struggle, big players will be fine" card all the time.

Really? When else has he played this 'card'? More importantly, why would he make that up? He said he was a good player but just relayed that Bernard himself may well be apprehansive

But we'd have Siggy and Dempsey for that position too, so we'd hardly be relying on him hitting the ground running.

Mata, Carzola, Modric, Silva etc all had questions raised about their build. Bernard is pretty touch and tenatious from what I've seen of him.

Let's hope in a few weeks we can discuss the idea that we don't have to rely on him hitting the ground running in full!
However, wouldn't he want to hit the ground running himself in a world cup year?

I don't really mind that we don't seem to be going for the 'creative' types and seem to be stocking up on powerful, physical beasts. I think it's a good way to build a squad, and in a way that we don't become a much of a muchness with loads of different types of players.

For instance our side under Jol had a lot of different types, but we never got the points like we got with AVB. I think balance is important, in terms of players fulfilling the roles that need to be filled, but in terms of style, I quite like what we are doing.

For 2 reasons: Firstly, we are building a side that will compete in the predominant style of the league we are in, which is suited to the culture. AVB seems to have altered hus philosophy from Chelsea, where he said it was counter-cultural to play the way he did. It's good for us to build a quality, powerful side, because simply put that is what works in this league.

Secondly, we are building on what we have. When Moyes went to Everton there were supposedly worries that his 'pretty triangles' wouldn't work in a relegation scrap at Everton, but he played according to the players he was given and then built from that, never really trying to radically change. I think AVB is doing a similar thing. He sees our strength as a powerful, quick side and that we don't really 'do' patient picking of locks. If we sign some small, clever schemers then I'm sure we may have slightly better home form but probably considerably worse away form. But we seem to be building a side that says 'OK, you know how to stop us, you can sit back and not give us any space. But you risk letting us absolutely pummel you for 90 minutes at the same time as letting us barge through with the likes of Benteke. The team will know in theory how to stop us, but because we will be so utterly powerful, it will be difficult to do so.

The added bonus is that our style will tend to suit playing against the bigger teams. If we can have enough individual quality to beat the smaller ones, then we should hopefully pick up a number of vital points against the big boys.

I'm not saying balance isn't important, but I feel confident with the types of players we are linked with, that they are all physical specimens either in speed or strength. It will suit the league and it will suit our squad. We know what we are.

Well i posted:

This week is going to be interesting!

Then when i was eating/busy writing out what i heard (taking my time reading through before posting so people couldnt take it wrong) JJ posted lol

But this is what i was told.

I was told by Biatch we have been speaking to Aston Villa and we have a deal they have said they will accept in princible, not official yet as we havnt finalised it. No price of yet i will try to find out tommorrow.
But and its a BIG BUT!! They have not finalised it yet! We could still have this go wrong if any little thing is wrong!

- But with JJ saying it is done i feel it has moved on since.

from Storts on COYS

re: Chadli

It will happen, if we want it to, that hasn't been decided just yet though

i dont believe these Benteke done deal rumours.....ok, maybe terms have been agreed with the player without first getting permission form Villa to talk, but in terms of the transfer fee there is no way Levy has got anywhere near to what Villa want imo, not so so soon in the window.

I dont want us to wait till last week of August. We need a striker to come in and hit ground running with us and that means getting a full pre season in with the team and Manager.

It would be nice to have our season start on August 16th than 1st September.

i think we all agree about that...lets hope the ITKs are right, for once

Well I was thinking about this, we had a deal in place for Villa, lets say £120k a week wages at Barca x3 year contract = over £18m, plus £5m transfer fee on table = £23m plus signing on bonuses and agent fees = £25m odd lets say - don't think that's unrealistic!

Now Benteke, he won't be on more than probably £30k a week at Villa, lets say we do a deal at £50k a week over a 5 year contract = £13m. Then lets say we do a deal with Villa at around £23m transfer fee plus agent /signing on fees = total deal of £37m

So there is a shortfall of £12m we need to find to fund this deal over the Villa one. Well the rumours are that we've pulled out of the Bernard deal where bidding appears to be around the £17m-£20m mark and appear to be going for Chadli instead so if this is the case I see no reason why we can't tie up Benteke if we want to

Who: JJetset
When: 15th July 2013
Where: SC

Backing up Storts info last night that Daniel has had Chadli fully checked out and is another option for us.

This has been mentioned by lots of other ITK too and i have been away but he has definitely been 'evaluated' so to say.

------------------------------

So is it believed that Chadli is our backup option if Bernard goes to Porto instead of us? (likely I'd imagine...)

Who knows? Bernard's agent said we hadn't been in contact since we signed Paulinho. That was a week ago so could have gone back for him. There was a Brazilian news report last night stating we'd bid 20m euros for Leandro of Gremio who plays in a similar position I believe so could also be him

@Adam79Suter: Baldini is making the difference. Likely Benteke will be a Spurs player by the end of the week. 5 year deal plus option.
