The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

Last chance saloon for Parrett IMO. 21 years old and been our on loan on a number of occasions - really needs to step up and have a decent loan somewhere. That said, tough to prove yourself too much in just two months

Anyone got any theories as to why Tottenham U21s should be such an outstanding attacking force this season compared with the best in the land at this level?

In Stage 2 of the Premier Elite so far we've netted more than double any other across the three groups. Appreciate we've already played all our home games but we've also been banging them in for fun away from home. It's not as though it's down to one or two prolific scorers either, fgrom what i can make out the goals have been shared amongst a whole plethora of players.

Not sure that it explains it completely however some young players who are thought to be genuinely top notch (Raheem Stirling, Oxlade Chamd.. and others in national U-21 teams) are either playing for their first team or out on loan and therefore wouldnt be playing in the Premier youth league. We seem to have an adundance of players who arent that good that they're playing men football but are decent at premier youth league level

On a similar note, its going to be interesting to see what happens in the next 12 months with the myriad of players which we have in the 21-ish year old bracket who really need to be playing week in week out. Am thinking about Rose, Bostock, Smith, Parrett, Townsend, Byrne, Luongo, Mason - all players who are meant to be promising but some of whom dont seem to deliver

^ i may be way off the mark here but Im not so sure that's what players get judged on when they go out on loan - if the club highly rate Parrett, for example, based on what he has done at youth/reserve level and whilst on the training ground in front of our own coaches then i don't think that him not setting the world alight whilst on loan will factor in too much - it's about going out there and learning the lessons that first team football can only provide - not particularly about going to a side in the Championship and banging in 15 goal or whatever

Yeah, I think it just depends on the player. For example, a player like Kyle Walker — a strong, direct, pacy right back — is going to be helpful to a team, no matter what style they play. However, Tom Carroll had a miserable spell at Derby County b/c a ball-playing, one touch midfielder is going to obviously struggle on a team that plays hoofball. Andros Townsend is going to be helpful to a team like QPR, but would he do as well in a slightly more cultured system like AVB's. I hope and think so, but I don't think him playing well for QPR necessarily guarantees that he will be a mainstay at Spurs. I have huge hopes for Carroll, Townsend, and Smith, and I would hope to see at least one of Pritchard, Parrett, or Luongo make a dent in the first team, but I haven't seen them nearly as much. Unsure about Danny Rose, tbh.

Rose will have a better career than all of them.

Agree about Rose - think he'll do well. Just needs to gain experience - think this season will have benefitted him massively. Personally I would keep him and Benny as our two LBs next season and loan out Fryers. AVB has said that he'll only keep 4 CB meaning that JV wont have as many opportunities to play LB

Drew 1-1, not bad. Would be nice if they stay if Swindon get into the qualifiers. It's difficult to replicate those sorts of 'pressure' matches and would be good to see how they cope.

Parrett played on the right as a winger in 433. Would be good to see him and luongo play in the mid together.

Smith stuck at LB for Millwall. Not the sternest defensive test as Leicster are down to ten but he does strike me as a good footballer every time I see him play
