The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

I do not see the point of our youngsters going out on loan just to play for a weaker reserves/ U21's side.

It seems as though our youth system is the nuts right now and we have a snazzy new ground...why did Inglethorpe decide to leave?

There's never been an official acknowledgement that he left Spurs, so I can only assume that it wasn't on the best of terms.

Liverpool U18s 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur U18s

Roman Michael-Percil struck twice as our Under-18s were denied victory by a last-minute goal at Liverpool in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Wednesday.

Daniel Trickett-Smith put the Reds 1-0 up inside 60 seconds but the lads responded well as Michael-Percil levelled midway through the half.

The winger - who levelled so dramatically against Sporting in the NextGen Series last week - then fired the team ahead five minutes into the second half.

However, Trickett-Smith scored again in injury time for the final 2-2 scoreline.

"The first half was in blizzard conditions - the pitch was fine - but we were slow out of the blocks, poor for the first 10 minutes and they scored within about 20 seconds from our kick-off, which was highly disappointing," reported our Academy Manager, John McDermott.

"We got a foothold in the game from there as Harry Winks and Filip Lesniak started to assert themselves in midfield.

"We had a number of good chances with Victor, whose work ethic and commitment was outstanding and Roman, who took our equaliser really well, a shot across the goalkeeper from the outside right position.

"We started well in the second half and Nathan Oduwa hit the crossbar early on before an excellent counter-attack and cross from Roman that was bundled into the goal for 2-1.

"We lost Harry Winks just after the hour, he's been out recently though injury, the game became a little messier but we had chances to finish the game off.

"Disappointingly, Liverpool equalised with the last kick of the game, from a throw-in and we'd worked so hard that it felt like a defeat driving back down the M6.

"Overall, good performances from Dominic Ball, Alex McQueen was solid, Harry Winks showed good quality and Victor put real energy into the team. He really showcased what he's capable of."

Promotion. He was U21s manager at Liverpool and was U19s coach with us.

Is that really a promotion?

I'd assume U19's is a far more difficult and important job. Early development is extremely important in a players career, and if they are good enough at U19 they skip U21's entirely.

Great little player. seen him numerous times

Really? I'd never even heard of him before reading this. Seems like he must be pretty advanced to be training with the senior pros. Where is he in his development and what kind of player is he? From some articles I've read, he seems like a cultured CM. Is that right?

Thanks!

Just to clarify, I'm talking about Winks. What team does he play with? U19?

yes from what ive seen hes a very busy, cultured central midfielder. comfortable on the ball and always wants it. hes a first year academy player and played for eng u17 and obviously trained with the 1st team, although its not unusual for young players to train with them. my mates brother is an u15 at spurs and has had a few sessions with 1st team players.

winks is a good player, one to keep an eye on

MILES JOINS DAGGERS:

Young goalkeeper Jonathan Miles has joined League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a loan spell at Brentwood earlier in the season and has played 13 times for our Under-21s in the Barclays U21 Premier League this term.

Tottenham Hotspur @SpursOfficial

Massimo Luongo, Dean Parrett and Nathan Byrne have joined League One promotion-chasers Swindon Town on loan until the end of the season

Good luck to them.

Disappointed to see Luongo go from promising Championship player at Ipswich to down a gear to Swindon. But hey, if it means first team football I am all for it.

Anyone got any theories as to why Tottenham U21s should be such an outstanding attacking force this season compared with the best in the land at this level?

In Stage 2 of the Premier Elite so far we've netted more than double any other across the three groups. Appreciate we've already played all our home games but we've also been banging them in for fun away from home. It's not as though it's down to one or two prolific scorers either, fgrom what i can make out the goals have been shared amongst a whole plethora of players.
