The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

Tottenham Hotspur @SpursOfficial

Congratulations to Adam Smith, Steven Caulker, Danny Rose and @andros_townsend who are all named in the England U-21 squad.

so townsend is the only one of those lot with a twitter account? is that what the @ means im asking cos im not sure

I love that we are developing our youngsters just feel that carroll should be there as well.

Im not one of these that thinks sherwood is the next GHod don't know if he is any good or not but i agreed with his comments about how the england coaches should go round to clubs and actually see who are the best players at the clubs. Because as he said if england want to play a more passing game then surely someone like carroll should be fast tracked.

Nothing against livermore who i presume is in the full side but if we want to progress as a nation then surely it has to be people like carroll and pritchard who are fast tracked and not someone like livermore, i do like the lad but he is a water carrier.

Blimey! I know we get a lot in the younger squads, but when was the last time we had 4 in the U21s? And every single one of them has now played first team football for Spurs =D>

Rose is an interesting one, he is getting games at sunderland and if he looks good towards the end of the season he may come back and fight for the first team spot with ekotto. I still expect us to get that fryers after he has done the amount of time abroad that we do not have pay a fee for him.

The problem with England is that there is absolutely no plan whatsoever, it's a fudging joke. Where is the cohesion through the age groups? What type of football are England trying to play? Is there any strategy to move players from youth to senior set-up? England has no identity as a football team, we certainly don't play the fast paced English game that the Premiership is known for.

The English National Team is a clusterfudge of cluelessness and will continue to be so until somebody comes in and gets the entire system pointing in one direction.

It'd be nice to think that we have some agreement on Zeki Fryers, we'll see. As for Rose, who knows what will happen there. I have a suspicion he may as for a permanent move. Either way, it is no disaster as we'd probably get a good fee if he has done enough to warrant a move.

Of course it's going to be a clusterfudge of cluelessness. The England manager doesn't last long enough to create his own regime and then the next one comes along and tries to change everything anyway.

And that's the biggest problem. A national manager is always, by nature, transitory and should have no bearing on the long term strategy of the team. The FA should be generating a long term plan from youth football up.

Exactly !

It should essentially be a Sporting Director set up where he oversee's all this and the manager can just come and go without much disruption. I actually thought this was what Trevor Brooking was supposed to be doing, but either he's doing a really brick job or his hands are tied.

On another associated point, the argument could just be that the talent isn't there, but look at swansea for example, they're not exactly high on talent, but they're punching well above their weight because the whole club has a system they work to and it's been the same for what, 6 or 7 years now. England as Wookie says is just a clusterfudge of styles and strategies.

No mate, it's a shame really. Luongo started brightly but Jewell has favoured Andy Drury. They're now struggling for results, the fans want Jewell out and Luongo is warming the bench. Might as well call him back, all he is learning there now is how a club shouldn't be run if you listen to some of their fans. Some think they are playing well and unlucky for results but all want Jewell gone.

Jordan Archer played his part as Wycombe Wanderers secured their second win of the campaign in League Two on Saturday.

The young goalkeeper made a fine late save to deny Torquay's Ryan Jarvis an equaliser as Wycombe held on for a 2-1 victory at Adams Park.

Jermaine Jenas had a goal disallowed after coming on as a 61st-minute substitute in Forest's 1-0 win at Peterborough in the Championship.

Staying in the Championship, Massimo Luongo was a 73rd-minute substitute as Ipswich suffered a 2-1 home defeat against leaders Cardiff City.

In the Premier League, Danny Rose and Sunderland had their work cut out against champions Emirates Marketing Project, who won 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Danny prevented a fourth goal when he cleared off the line from Micah Richards.

In League One, Nathan Byrne played 90 minutes as Crawley lost 2-1 at Brentford, for whom Ryan Fredericks was an unused substitute. John Bostock also remained on the bench as Swindon beat Bury 1-0 at Gigg Lane.

Away from the UK and Bongani Khumalo played 90 minutes as PAOK were held to a 1-1 draw by OFI in the Greek Super League.

David Bentley played 81 minutes as FC Rostov suffered a 2-1 defeat at Terek in the Russian Premier League.

In the MLS, Simon Dawkins, back from an ankle injury, was an unused substitute as our partner club San Jose Earthquakes beat Colorado Rapids 4-1.

Earthquakes are top of the Western Division by nine points and five points clear of Sporting Kansas City in the race for the MLS's prestigious Supporters Shield, awarded to the team with the best record in the regular season.

bostock is a bit brick isnt he

He was a nailed on England regular 100%, the head of the next golden generation until we bought him and instilled a dreadful work ethic and attitude in to his mind which definitely wasn't there beforehand. Our academy is dreadful, our coaches don't know what they're doing and we won't see any talented players coming through for a very long time unless something changes. Oh and Sherwood out \o/

I guess that was said in jest.

Bostock has only himself to blame, caulker, livermore and townsend have all come through so maybe bostock for all his skill is just noted suited to playing the game proffesionaly.

this. there was no guarentee he was gonna make it at the top. it has always been his effort/work rate that has let him down

Bostock seems like the typical youngster who is faster, stronger, better technique than everyone in his age group and he just stops working and others with less natural ability and better work ethic pass him up
