A comment about Luongo on the Ipswich forum:

How good is that lad going to be?

Very early days but potentially i would suggest he could be the highest quality loanee we have ever had?

Probably the blue tinted glasses of an excellent evening but at times last night he reminded me of Frans Thijssen and surely there can be no higher praise than that.

Now we just need to land his Spurs mate Harry Kane for the rest of the season......

Again, great to read comments like that

Mentioned this in another thread. Just wonder if the coaching staff have seen something about this guy that makes them think he could be our 5th choice CB?

Not very likely this season. Played 5 games for Lewes last season, on loan from Brighton.

Good to see our NextGen lads doing well again. Anyone seen a decent match report floating around?

Isn't Pritchard the guy QPR tried to steal? At least we have one youngster who can take a free kick. Is supposed to be pretty talented.

Who is Grant Hall?

Who is Grant Hall?

Freebie, young central defender we've picked up from Brighton.

A fantastic second-half comeback saw Tottenham move to the top of NextGen Group One with a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg.

The German side took an early lead at the Elsterweg Stadion when Philip Hauck converted from the penalty spot 17 minutes into the game.

Spurs dominated much of the opening half with Alex Pritchard proving the key man as he frequently unlocked the Wolfsburg defence.

But despite Pritchard's best efforts, the London club went into the half time interval trailing by a single goal. However, their deficit did not last long as striker Shaquile Coulthirst levelled the game on 63 minutes.

Just over a quarter of an hour later Spurs were ahead, as substitute midfielder Ruben Lameiras made an instant impact by slotting home a cool finish to hand the Lilywhites the lead.

That advantage was extended three minutes from the end as Pritchard netted with a spectacular 20-yard free-kick to ensure victory.

Wolfsburg did pull a goal back in injury time through midfielder Julian Brandt, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Spurs duly held out to take the three points and move to the summit of Group One.

NEXTGEN - WOLFSBURG 2-3 SPURS - SUPER SUBS SECURE WIN!
Posted 22 August 2012 10:28pm

Our Under-19 team got off to a flying start in the 2012-13 NextGen Series on Wednesday night as they defeated Wolfsburg 3-2 at the VfL Stadion.

Facing a tough opening fixture, our lads settled quickly and dominated the early proceedings with Alex Pritchard going close in the 12th minute as his powerful strike zipped just wide of the right-hand post.

Despite our early pressure it was Wolfsburg who took the lead as Philip Hauck coolly converted from the penalty spot after Alex McQueen was adjudged to have upended his opponent in the box.

Alex Inglethorpe's side reacted positively to going behind and it was a real surprise that they went into the break with a one-goal defecit as first Milos Veljkovic forced a fine save from Carl Klaus in the Wolfsburg goal and then Souleymane Coulibaly twice went close.

Needing to push for the equaliser in the second half against a physical German side, Shaq Coulthirst was introduced from the bench and he made an impact within minutes as his deflected effort from outside the penalty area left Klaus stranded and brought the scores level at 1-1.

Dominant in the air all night, Spurs goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux made sure the scores remained level with a fantastic save in the 66th minute, making himself an imposing figure and saving with his chest at close range from Maimilian Arnold.
It was to be another substitute who would earn us a well-deserved lead.

Ruben Lameiras was introduced in the 75th minute and by the time the clock had reached 77 minutes he was on the scoresheet. Coulibaly forced a fine save from Klaus, however, Lameiras was the sharpest to react and volleyed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.

There was still time for the excellent Pritchard to find the net as his free-kick from 20 yards was too much for Klaus to handle.

Wolfsburg were able to pull back a consolation goal in stoppage time through Julian Brandt, however it was our lads that came out on top with a thoroughly deserved win.

The victory leaves us top of Group One with our next fixture against Barcelona at White Hart Lane on Thursday, September 13 - CLICK HERE for ticket details...

Spurs (4-2-3-1): Vigouroux; A McQueen, Ball (Ogilvie, 67), Veljkovic, Stewart; Gallifuoco (Coulthirst, 60), Dombaxe; McEvoy (Lameiras, 75), Bentaleb, Pritchard; Coulibaly. Unused subs: McGee, D McQueen.

With thanks to Alex Carroll in Wolfsburg...
