The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

He's not going to get any better sitting on the bench though...

I know, that is a problem but I think that we have a lot of work to do in the transfer market with our forwards this summer and holding onto him might be a pragmatic solution to one of the positions. He's done well enough in the Championship to be given a shot, the only question is whether he would get enough games for it to not to scupper his development.

I would hope that kane can get a full season on loan at millwall next year, they seem to like him and are playing him regular which is important at his age, if he is doing really well maybe recall him at xmas like we did with walker last year and loan him to a prem club that needs a striker but often clubs in the premership do not want young players when they are struggling.

Think it ould be difficult for him to get games with us next season, maybe if we play europa league and rest more senior players for the league then he should stay with us for the first part of the season as he would likely get games.

Im in two minds it would be great to get champs league but if we play europa league and i get to see townsend, caulker and kane and maybe bits of smith and pritchard then i would be quite happy. I think he will continue the development in the right way we could see as part of our squad in a few season 6 or 7 academy players and with the stadium build having an effect on finances that would be a good thing.

When Teddy Sheringham was Harry Kane's age, he couldn't get into a third division Millwall side.
He dropped down a division on loan at Aldershot and abroad to a swedish club.
The next season he played 18 games and scored 4 goals for Millwall in the second division, a match to goals average of 4.5.
Harry Kane has played 23 games and scored 8 goals in the Championship with Millwall this season, at an average of 2.87

Both rather slow, good finishers and intelligent players - don't give up on Kane, it's too early to tell how he'll turn out.

different generation though really.

Agree and wont be used much. If we're in the CL then we should loan most of them out immediately, perhaps keeping a couple of them. If we're in the Europa then we should keep them til xmas playing a youth 11 in all EL and CC games

Totally agree mate and i find it amusing how some on here are so quick to right off our youth it is almost a reverse racism or they are talking about history because of how we have not brought through players very much of the last few years. Despite the fact that we put massive investment into our youth coaching with new coaches and we now have more out on loan getting vital experince.

Im not sure i would say whether livermore will ever be a world beater but he is more then able to be a squad player for us and maybe a little above that, he came in and did alright for parker and can also cover at right back. Im convinced that another year on loan in the championship or half season and then the rest in the prem would do townsend wonders as he looks like he could easily be a squad player or better for us.

See the boys did well to get to the finals today but lost on penalties to some mexicans.

Apparently that stewart in defence is meant to be a bit useful.

Another good tournament from our lads against a mixture of international sides. Inglethorpe said:

"Nabil Bentaleb, Jack Bartram, Kevin Stewart, Alex Pritchard and Ryan Fredericks were all very, very good. Nabil in particular looked like a complete midfield player."

So it'll be interesting to see this Bentaleb a bit more next year (I believe he was the player that inadvertently caused our withdrawal from NextGen). I guess it's about now we see who is going to get released from the second years, is it worth noting those players that didn't go to this tournament were, I think, McBride, Ekong, Sherrif, Yeboah, Angol and Hawkins. Perhaps there are injuries involved, but it could be telling... Although I thought Hawkins was highly rated and Ekong a Dutch youth international.

I would imagine a fair chunk of the "Professionals" would be moved on as well. You've got to think there's a few players in there that we'll cut our losses on soon to make way for some graduates.

I agree. Although I haven't been paying attention to if it's the same people doing it the combination of expecting someone very young and inexperienced like Coulibaly to step into our first team and "not do worse than Pav" with the opinion that someone who is 18 and isn't playing in the Premier League steadily yet can pretty much be given up on seems to me to be linked.

It's a shame McEvoy isn't progressing quicker, it would be hilarious seeing him and Bale in the same team. I'm looking forward to the preseason and seeing who Harry brings in to take a look at. We haven't heard much about Coulibaly or Ceballos recently. Carroll, Kane, Mason and Townsend will undoubtedly be looked at. There are a few like Smith and Luongo who I'd expect to be looked at a little more as well. Is this our Europa Cup squad? Seems a but attack heavy :D

Naughton and Caulker. Possibly Rose although he is likely to be loaned out. Cudicini or possibly a younger goalie if we bring one in.

I don't really count any of those as "Young Pros" anymore though. You're right though, looking forward to Naughton being back at Spurs and I really want Caulker to be in there as well.

With Naughton and Vertonghen (assuming we get him) deputising nicely at LB, I do wonder what it means for Rose though. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave over the summer, considering he is apparently looking to get more game time.

Not "young pros", but players I would guess would feature heavily in our Europa League matches next season as they are unlikely to be first choice in the league if they stay at the club.

I would like to see us send Rose on a loan to a PL club planning to use him as a left back. Considering how little playing time he's gotten I don't think we would get much of a transfer fee for him, and some regular playing time could see him improve quite a bit I think. Considering how poor some of the PL left backs are I think it should be possible.

Football Association set for key vote on youth football

FA shareholders will on Monday vote on reforms to youth football, including the introduction of small-sided formats for certain age-groups.

Proposals include nine-a-side games on smaller pitches and smaller goals for under-11s and under-12s, and five-a-side for under 7s and under-8s.

In England, children as young as 10 currently play on full-size pitches.

The reforms are designed to emulate the emphasis on technique and skill in countries such as Spain where children are only allowed to play on adult pitches from under-14 level.

The proposals have been developed over a number of years, with consultations across the game.

Nick Levett, FA national development manager, said: "These changes are desperately needed to support the future development of youth football.

"We need to ensure children play on pitches appropriate to them, a 10 year is not half a 20 year old!

"We also need an approach to competition that makes the game more competitive for more children.

"The FA believes having listened to the grassroots game that these proposals are absolutely the way forwards."

Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand got involved in the debate on Twitter.

He tweeted: "One thing our kids coaches don't do that foreign coaches do is teach them to pass the ball to a player under pressure..then coach one-two.

"How to protect the ball under pressure..foreign players do that much better than us...one reason why they keep possession better.

"FA coaching courses need a right old shake up in my humble opinion if we are to move forward...some real good bits but some ancient bits too."

There are a total of 1120 votes that can be cast by shareholders, with County FAs key with 767 between them.

The FA needs 75% of the votes cast for the reforms to be approved, which will be introduced by the 2014/15 season.
