liverpool 1 - 3 spurs

Has mason made a single appearance for this French team? Was getting told by someone in Swansea on Saturday he hasn't even been on their bench yet? Seems a pretty pointless loan if true.

was a pleasure watching bentaleb yesterday, what a player. could be in the 1st team squad if he can play like that consistently.

Chris Ramsey described Monday’s 3-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield as one of the best performances of our Under-21s impressive campaign.

Two goals from Cristian Ceballos and Kenny McEvoy’s late third took the team’s record to eight wins, a draw and one defeat in 10 matches in the second phase of the Barclays U21 Premier League and stretched their lead to 10 points from United in the Elite Group.

Monday’s win in front of over 2,000 fans at Anfield came with six Academy trainees in the starting line-up as 13 players who have featured for the U21s this season are now away on loan.

“It’s one of the better performances and it means that little more because there was a decent crowd there and some of the lads would never have played at a stadium of that calibre and history,” said Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach.

“Players from both teams went down with cramp and a lot of that was down to the emotional energy that a game like that draws out of you.

“As far as individual performances were concerned, Nabil Bentaleb was outstanding, the best player on the pitch with Laste Dombaxe and Milos Veljkovic not far behind. That’s where we won the game. It was also good to see Lawrence Vigouroux back to his confident best in goal and he made a fine save in the last minute.”

The biggest compliment is to say the players out on loan weren’t missed as the lads dominated and should really have been out of sight before Liverpool replied and then struck the woodwork in the space of a minute. The comeback didn’t materialise though before McEvoy’s fine strike sealed it.

“It was a great learning curve for the lads in terms of not being clinical with the chances and suddenly, Liverpool got back into it and we were a bit jittery,” added Chris. “We had four clear-cut chances in the second half before they scored, but we took control again after that.”

The win means the team’s overall record in both phases of the Barclays U21 Premier League so far is 15 wins, three draws and four defeats from 22 matches, scoring an amazing 75 goals along the way. Two of the defeats came in the first two matches of the season in August."

Been on the bench I think. Its all about the coaching really, if he happens to be working with excellent players and coaches who have similar ideas to our own thats got to be of great benefit even if he dosnt play. I'd say that about any loan anywhere tbh, just because a guy dosnt on the face of it set the world alight he is learning something, learning the game and learning his own game.

For example, Crewe is a great place to go, just because its a renowned youth setup. But going to play for Warnock taught Townsend a few things too at Leeds. I think these loans are incalculably valuable at this stage. When Hoddle played under Wenger he probably hadn't imagined where it would take him either.

If I was a young chap again, I'd bite my arm off to work overseas and learn a language, see how they do it etc. I know now how valuable it is to people, employers or whatever. Even living and working in another city is worth it, working abroad takes balls and really tests character.

Is he more Dembele or Sandro? I just saw the highlights and he looked like he a B2B mid with good passing.

more dembele id say. fantastic ball control, left foot right foot, vision and composure. ive seen him play well before but yesterday he was the part. best player on the park imo. although the whole team deserve a mention as well

Reminded me of Vieira a bit, great physical presence but with style and skill.

Raises an interesting point....

Have any of our foreign youth "products" made the grade before now?

The likes of Kamannan, Mpoku, Pekhart etc all fell by the wayside. As far as I can recall, the only youth players who've made a significant number of appearances for our first team are British and Irish.

Is there anyone obvious that I'm overlooking?

Because it's about time that one of these foreign youth players came good for us.

He played a few games for their B team. Then was an unused substitute for their 1st team in the last game before the international break but wasn't in the squad for the game after the break. I think he might be injured.

I think Ceballos might be the exception here.

whatever happened to blondel or the slovak who was meant to be the new trevor brooking forget his name acvimoc or something weird like that.

Jonathan Blondel had a few first team games for us but failed to impress - he's been a regular at Club Brugge since leaving the Lane and has been capped for Belgium.
