I will have to agree to disagree because when watching them I really don't remember him playing deep but I didn't see all of their games especially late in the season so you may be right. I listed above the formations I saw when watching Fulham and if he came here I was thinking he would slot into one of those roles. That being said I still don't think I would splash that much money on him over the course of what he did over 5-10 games or so. I do think he is a decent player but too similar to what we have already imo.

Did you read the quotes I posted above? Did you check the whoscored.com link I posted?

He most definitely played in a deeper role for Fulham at times last season. Primarily towards the end. And got plenty of praise for his performances there.

That team is weaker than last season whilst Arsenal and Chelsea have strengthened. Hopefully AVB does his best to win us a cup or two(or three).

if we sell Modric our team is never going to be stronger than it was last season in my opinion

VDV will get less game time imo, and Lennon's place isnt so secure either

Amazes me how highly people seem to rate Sigurdsson depsite the fact that very very few people were saying we should sign him before he arrived. One decent half season in the PL and suddenly according to some he's ahead of people like Lennon and VdV who've done it consistently in teh PL. I'd start him on the bench though would expect him to get a reasonable number of starts across all competitions and expect him to prove that he's worth a place in the starting 11

Wasn't so long ago they unveiled this :

But then Gaydamak decided to fudge off. Apparently he still hold claims of around £32 million against the club.

I think it's the sheer desperation of having to hope our only 2 signings this window (so far) would turn out quality additions. While in turn forgetting our only striker is Defoe who many dislike

Thats the key - it was a trend through the season toward him playing there and by the end he had made it his own.

Put it this way, if he stays at Fulham I dont expect him anywhere but CM on 16/08.

Of course if thats not what you saw its not what you saw, but I would suggest the amount of people supporting this view should be enough for you to consider looking into it a bit.

Looking back now on soccernet.com at old fixtures you are correct, the last 10 or so matches he did play in CM the majority of time it appears. I can admit when I am wrong

r.e. Dembele - I'm not sure how Jol insisting on playing him further back automatically 'converts' him into a playmaker CM - that is not his natural position, not by a long shot, although Jol had to accommodate Dempsey somehow

Similar to Sturridge being forced out wide - he is a striker first and foremost

I would agree with that, I was wrong in thinking he did play only in attacking roles but certainly over his career that is not where he was meant to play.

yes we can.
for all that modric bought to the team, we were truly unorganized in attack. no set plays, no organized running etc... so modric ran into.. well.. nothing mostly.

i'm confident with an organized midfield - even without modric's skills - we can be even better at possession and attacking play. even someone who has skills like dembele would add a new dimension to the midfield. we can play a different way and be better right?

is it just me or do Fulham look very very good now, with Petric and Rodallega. They are not exactly skint of attack..
