This is quite worrying to be honest, so wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he signs for Arse next week for an extra 1.2m or something ridiculous. Not a good sign at all. Hopefully I'm wrong

Typical fudging Spurs bad luck.

the only positive i can gather is that he appears to still 'want' the move, it just seems to be quite a ways from being completed.

The only positive is about 15 ITKs who told us this was done and dusted look like absolute mugs (moreso than usual)

May I just add - thought he looked quite good against England. Cultured, strong, composed on the abll, read the game well, none of that cluless BAE hoofing down the left or always backtracking chasing shadows due to misreading yet another pass. Can't recall a single time he was beaten for pace or in the air. And that's not even his natural position.

I really hope we sign him, looked intelligent on and off the ball - a player who can fit straight into our tactial ethos as opposed to a hoofing ogre/clogger

[h=3]STEVEN PIENAAR fears Spurs will price him out of a dream return to Everton.[/h]
The midfielder is desperate to seal a permanent move back to Goodison after spending the last four months of the season there on loan.

But Tottenham are refusing to lower their ?ú6million asking price for a 30-year-old player who cost them just ?ú3m in January 2011.
Pienaar knows he does not figure in Harry Redknapp’s plans after getting just 14 minutes of Premier League action for Spurs last season.
South African Pienaar quit the Toffees for a ?ú60,000-a-week contract with Spurs but has never been a regular starter at White Hart Lane.
But his impressive performances back at Everton since January have sparked a bust-up between Redknapp and chairman Daniel Levy. The Tottenham supremo has demanded to know why Redknapp has failed to get the best out of Pienaar when he plays so well for Everton boss David Moyes.
And Levy has also questioned why his manager is demanding cash to strengthen the midfield when he has not utilised Pienaar’s talents.
Now their disagreement is threatening to scupper Pienaar’s wish to move back to Goodison Park.

I hope he leaves for his career sake. Will never be a regular with us as long as Redknapp is manager and would end up deteriorating like dos Santos and Bentley into a nothing bit-time no confidence player. If you don't play - you lose form, simple as that. Especially when Huddlestone is back, adding to that Livermore, etc. - not a chance, Peanut. Investec signing, nothing more - Arry would have never gone for him - it was pretty obvious from his interviews, contract lenght and subsequent treatment. Might as well cash in now.

What do you mean by Investec signing?

Not impossible but it not normally the way that sponsors behave and especially not ones who only have half of our games. I've always thought that we bought him because he was cheap, available, could be useful and if it didn't work out we could probably sell him on at a profit.

You'd be surprised, especially if they have long term plans with us which potentially extending into the stadium, etc. They could have in theory financed half of his contract for all we know on the basis of our sponsorhip, etc.

Anyway - that's at least my explanation for a player who

- we didn't need
- offered a massive contract essentially retiring him with us with no re-sale
- the manager never really said anything about

By massive contract, do you mean long contract or big wages? A longer contract just means that it is easier for us to ask for a higher transfer fee when we sell him.

I'd say both - the alleged 60k would put him in our top 1/3 no doubt

Also - I wouldn't imagine we bought him with the intention of re-selling. He's 30 after all

We needed Pienaar. We were in the CL and still in the hunt for a CL spot in the league, we needed some backup to Lennon and to some extent Bale as Harry doesn't seem to trust Kranjcar in big games, I don't blame him. He could also provide backup for VdV and possibly in central midfield in a 4-5-1. He was the kind of hard working utility player we needed, and he also seemed to have enough quality about him to make a difference. He was experienced, knew the league and was available for a fairly small fee.

We had to pay him as much as we did since he most likely already had solid wages at Everton and Chelsea were after him as well and they were probably offering him more than we did.

Harry played him plenty when we first signed him, didn't seem to be a player he had pushed onto him.

It just didn't work out, for whatever reasons.
