Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

I do not see any correlation between VDV and Moutinho. Nor VDV and Dembele (it is IMO a lazy reference to where he used to play)

Moutinho/Modric? Dembele/Modric? Absolutely.

I also do not think we are a team that can afford to buy first team top quality for the bench, nor a team (without CL) that can accomodate such.

Besides which, when we are working to a budget and have more pressing requirements we simply wouldnt spend over £20m on a position that is no longer essential.

I think people are reading too much into how AVB set up his Porto team. There is more than one way to play 4-3-3, it all depends on what kind of players you have.

IF we're moving towards 4-3-3 I expect to see various combinations of Sandro, Dembele, Parker, Moutinho, Sigurdsson as the midfield 3.

For example:

Sandro Moutinho Dembele
Sigurdson Moutinho Dembele
Moutinho Parker Dembele/Sigurdsson

I'm curious as to whether AVB thinks Dembele or Sig can play as part of a front 3. Lennon-Ade-Bale will probably be first choice, but we still have Defoe, Gio and Kane. I personally think VDV might leave, we're not doing anything to prevent it. Getting around £15m for him will cover Dembele. We're most likely also looking for another attacking player. The money is there if Levy thinks these are players we really need.

First we didn't sign enough players, now we're getting too many. :ross:

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Certainly possible Sig could be considered for a front 3, particularly one that is fluid (although not too much, Bale is better wide left)

Van der Vaart talked 30 minutes with Levy today and asked him to let him leave, according to "Bild". Levy reportedly still wants €18m.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Actually yeah, from the team I posted put Sigurdsson where VDV is (if he's off)... I mean Dembele will float to the right like he did at times against Man Utd, Walker provides pace and width that Lennon usually would and Sigurdsson, Ade and Bale could quite easily all change with eachother, although if Bale sticks to the left which he should, Sig is effectively playing off the striker

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

I'd much rather spend that £25m on Nani if we could persuade him to come here.

Berbatov being Berbatov

Fiorentina were in pole position to land Berbatov after agreeing a deal with Manchester United earlier on Wednesday.

The Bulgarian flew out to Italy for talks and a medical at Fiorentina but failed to turn up at Florence after Juventus hijacked the move for Berbatov.

However, in another twist Berbatov has snubbed a switch to Italian champions after an apparent last-minute move by Fulham.

Fiorentina have issused a withering statement hitting out Berbatov's conduct following his snub to the Viola.

"ACF Fiorentina announce that the transfer for Dimitar Berbatov definitively collapsed after an agreement with Manchester United had been concluded (with shared exchange of contracts, the first instalment paid and the financial guarantees for the second instalment ratified) and after reaching a verbal agreement with the player over his contract," read a club statement.

"During today the English club had allowed their player the written permission to come to Florence for a medical and to sign his contract.

"The player got on the flight with his agent and on tickets paid for by Fiorentina. He never arrived in Florence.

"This was down to outlandish and arrogant behaviour of other clubs, who have nothing to do with fair play and sporting ethics that go even beyond the confines of fairness.

"As for the player, apart from his characteristics and his value on the field, at this stage we are happy he didn't come to Fiorentina. He did not deserve our city, to wear our jersey or the values that represent it."

Juventus sporting director, Beppe Marotta, claims Berbatov opted against the move to Juventus as he wants to stay in England for family reasons.

"It hasn't been a refusal. Berbatov prefers remaining in England due to family reasons," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "We have contacted him after we knew he refused the Fiorentina move.

"I've spoken with Man Utd's chief officer. We knew their decision to sell Berbatov and we started a normal move.

"We wanted to take advantage from this occasion. The aim is to improve ourselves."

It seems Berbatov is now due to hold talks with Fulham with Martin Jol a big fan of the forward having worked with him during his time in charge of Tottenham.

I think people are reading too much into how AVB set up his Porto team. There is more than one way to play 4-3-3, it all depends on what kind of players you have.

Im not considering the Porto set up aside from it being a starting thought to compare to (which is more important IMO) what he has done with us so far.

So far WE are looking like a 4231 with a midfield base being a DM and one Box to box, an AM and wide players pushing inside. Given we have one forward the AM has a responsibility to support and offer foal threat.

Jamming Sigurdsson, Sandro, Dembele, Moutinho, VDV, Bale, Lennon into a midfield is simply not feasable - and these are not players willing to be bench warmers IMO.

Looking at Porto, apparently AVB didnt rotate a lot. It was a concern I had when looking into him months ago.

If we have a set up of

..............DM....CM
..................AM
......RW...................LW
..................ST

We are looking at

..........Parker..........Dembele
..........Sandro........Moutinho
..........Livermore
....................VDV
....................Sigurdsson
Lennon....................................Bale
......................Adebayor

Putting VDV, Sigurdsson or Dembele in the wing forward roles might be serviceable but it is not playing to any of these players strengths and if the intention was this all along - compared to just buying wingers - its bloody ridiculous

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Too many?

We've only been buying replacements so far
(Lloris for Friedel)
Verts for King
Dembele for Modric
Sigg for VdV
(Ade for Ade)

Don't forget we got rid of Corluka, Krancjar, Pienaar plus maybe getting rid of Thudd, Jenas, Dos Santos, Bentley... that is a LOT of midfielders to get rid of so we are bare bones I tell thee, bare bones!!!

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

He's talented but I just wouldn't know how to feel supporting such a **** in Nani if he signed.

:-k How completely out of character.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Anyone think AVB has a plan to play Bale at LB and play This willy fella left side forward. Imho bale is not a forward and would be more useful attacking from deep and owning the wing.

Pedro Pinto ‏@pedrocnn
A source close to FC Porto just told me the transfer of Moutinho to Spurs should be announced in the next 24 hours. Will keep you posted.

Pedro Pinto has no reason to come out with flimflam either. He is very connected in Portugal and isn't in the rumour whoring business at all.
