You probably won't know as you're not a "whining kid" like me but you see them in cartoons and comic books.
zzzz originated in the comic strips, as an easy way for the cartoonist to convey someone as sleeping...yes, it's kinda the sound a sleeper makes. When the cartoonist wanted to convey snoring, they would often use multiple z's, often capitalized, to denote snoring--much like in here, capitals usually convey "yelling", in the comic strips, one or two z's meant sleeping, and a capital Z meant snoring with several capital z's (ZZZZ) meaning a loud snorer.
