Son Heung-Min

Rumours around that United are wanting to sign him. This time they have no chance (unlike the Berbatov saga), Levy wont let him leave, he wont want to lose that revenue from the South Korean following every week
If they seriously want him and are willing to pay something stupid we should definitely do it. He has less time left than the time we've already had him for and he's clearly in physical decline. A smart move would be to sell and reinvest the money because Son is only going to degrade further and further.

I thought he would be off at the end of this season but we are going back to South Korea again for friendlies this summer. Maybe he is planning one more season? Either way we need to keep strengthening so he's no longer captain or regular starter

Yeah if anyone’s looking to do a big money move for Son we should sell and reinvest. That’s just football.

My thoughts as well, especially take the armband off him.

Should never have been made captain. WE could all see that his personality wasn't suited for the role. He needs to be able to concentrate on his own game, you could see from the beginning that the responsiblity weighed to heavy on him, he immideiately started playing more for the team, passing up shooting oppotunites etc

Secondly again it's the managers job to build a play style that suits the players he has. Asking son to come short, back to go, control in tight spaces, lay it off etc is never going to get the best out of him. He needs to be facing the other way. The best I've seen him play this season is when Davies has played, as Davies plays that chipped ball down the line for him to run on to.

Now it's a situation where he's knackered, confidence is shot and each game he plays worse than the last.

Did hoddle really say last night that son was one of our top six players ever?
Now I love Sonny and his loyalty to us is a huge, huge plus for me, but top six player, I just can't see that.

Hoddle
Gascoigne
Ardiles
Perryman
Mabbutt
Bale
King
Kane
Waddle

That's just a list of the top of my head of the players I've seen playing for us that I think are better, before you add in the likes of

Mackay
Blanchflower
Jones
Greaves
Gilzean
Jennings
White
Chivers

Not trying to do son down, but I can't see the top six thing at all.

Can’t remember and was just wondering who took the armband after Son and Maddison went off last night? Just curious, nothing more than that.

Might be based on goals and assists?

Each have their own metric I guess.

From a technical point of view there is an argument that more recent players are all better than older players due to improved fitness alone.

Son will be the type of person to have a go at a player for not doing his job and then go and give him a cuddle and apologise as he feels bad about it. Thats not captain material, you can’t make a nice guy a captain unfortunately.

You can see him thinking...I should pass instead of shooting to make sure my teammate feels valued. It's what a captain does

Stupid decision to do so imo.

it doesn't matter who you make captain in a an angeball team - its always the same play.

the captain can't make on the pitch calls and if you're expecting him to discipline players, any senior player can do that.

ange was won some footballl thing as a captain for his team years ago, so i think he knows what a captain can/should do.

the whole captain thing needs to be seen as part of the whole angeball playbook - and in my opinion - every player knows their role and they keep trying to do a few things even if it feels like its banging their heads against a wall, in hope of a breakthrough.
