I agree. But he's never shown himself to be an elite player in a DM/6 role. And it's one he has to adjust to imo if he's to be an elite player there.

I agree that he's looking better and better.

While I agree he's not "naturally" a DM/6, he's the only one who ever made Conte's 2 man midfield work, something I think very few non elite players could ever manage.

I agree that he was looking elite before his injuries. But this is a different role and one he has to get used to if he's to elite in it.

I guess what I'm saying is that if he's now pretty much back physically, mentally, technically to the level he was before his injuries he may still improve in this role as he gets more experience in it.
 
I know some think he is wasted in the DM role but imo he is the best we have to play there at this time, i really do hope we bring in someone who generally plays that posistion in the next window. He is imo a far better player when he has been given the freedom to play further forward then the DM posistion but needs must at the moment.

bentancur and sarr can play as the centre midfield two, taking turns to overlap into attack

i agree, i have said a few times that of all the options we have he is the best at that role. I still hope we go into the market for DM because i think he is better playing further forward though.

I'm not sure there's any on the market that's better though. That's why we went for Gray instead.

The guy I liked the look of (a very brief one admittedly) is Ederson from Atalanta. He really looks the part tbh and ready right now to play the role to a elite or close to elite level. I imagine he's a 60m transfer though so possibly a bit rich for our blood in terms of DM especially with Gray sort of their developing and waiting in the wings.
