What happened to "drawing a protective ring around aged care homes"? Now it has emerged that aged care facilities had to receive people who they feared were infected. Hospitals were sending them back. Lie upon lie upon lie. Johnson claps and sheds crocodile tears for NHS workers killed and then lies. And some just accept it, they turn away in denial of this scandalous and incompetent government.

It does seem odd that govt throughout virtually the whole world seemed to have got this so totally wrong.
As age has been indicated as such a huge factor in survival was it not obvious that care homes would be vulnerable?
It's almost like these TV shows and movies with storyline about older people being resistant to entering a care home because they will forgotten about isn't so unbelievable after all.
That in my view has cast us (all of us) in a bad light.

Remember when Johnson got out of hospital and he lauded the foreign NHS workers who saved his life, at great risk to their own? Now their reward is to have the special NHS charge for immigrant workers increased. How tone deaf are these fudge wits?

Maybe all governments prioritised the economy and the young - it's the sensible thing to do.

With the low value of the pound and ease of entry removed, will Portuguese nurses want to come to the UK? Not to mention the 'soft' message it sends to people from Europe.

We are still a desirable nation. A special nation. But Bojo and his cronies are degrading us bit by bit.

There is so much D grade dead wood in the Tory cabinet, but I still cannot fathom how this ******** still gets a gig. She is hopeless!

There is a lot of practical/logistical talent in the Tory party (I know I know, you could never bring yourself to say something like that). But the truth is, a lot of Tory MPs have experience running companies and have exceptional training/education. It is probably what keeps Labour mainly in second place. Despite Tory's representing a tiny % of people, with Labour ostensibly representing the large majority.

But right now, all those pragmatic types have been evacuated from the government. Why? Because pragmatism means not supporting Brexit. Anyone with any sense knows this project is folly. The only people left are the Patels etc. Hanrooster is one of those who managed to lie thorugh his teeth that he supports Brexit (though he voted to remain) and so he snuck in the back door. Truth of the matter is, there is a lack of talent in our government at the moment, because they are choosing from a tiny pool of freaks and loons who supported an immature private school fantasy project: Brexit.

Yawn.

The pound is roughly where it's been against the euro since 2009, with the exception of a spike for around 18 months circa 2015.

And you should know that, because it's been pointed out to you several times previously on here.

You are in denial. We are the worst-performing currency of the G10 nations. But keep believing! While prices go up.

Pound sinks to bottom of G10 league table as Brexit fears return

Pound sinks to bottom of G10 league table as Brexit fears return Growing discussion of negative interest rates is hurting sterling Sterling has lost nearly 4 per cent of its value against the dollar in May. The pound is the worst-performing major currency this month, as renewed concerns about a no-deal Brexit combine with talk of negative interest rates to push the currency to its weakest since March’s dramatic sell-off.

But they didn't really did they, isolate the most vulnerable and the figures plummet taking away the cry for a lock down.
It was talked about in Italy at the start, but it looked like it was ridden over the top of in the panic.
There's very few who have handled it well at all, but don't really think that is unusual. It's an almost unique situation.

I'd imagine the Portuguese nurses you refer to would be much more concerned with the pound/euro exchange rate, than pound/dollar.

But of course that's rather inconvenient to your case, isn't it?

In denial about what? I'm the one in this conversation referencing facts.

What was the value of the pound against the dollar pre-vote and what is the value of the pound today? Simple facts for you.

Sterling reaching highs of $1.50 as we saw pre-Brexit are unthinkable now. Do you think we'll ever see that again in a Brexited UK?

Some more facts for you:
  • The Pound to Euro rate has averaged €1.33 over its full 20-year history.
  • It's currently €1.11
Are you sure you are not in denial?

You were talking about the pound's value at it relates EU immigration. You're now (very, very obviously) trying to move the goalposts.

I would say nice try, but honestly...must try harder :p

If you don't know that the dollar is used as a global benchmark for currencies, there isn't much I can do.
