Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

With the fixed-term parliament act, you can't get mid-term GEs now unless both sides confidently believe they can win it. And the Tories will definitely have learnt from 2017. They will also want to get the boundary changes through before one too.

And how do they get Brexit through without a proper majority?

As a left wing socialist I have to say that I never thought I’d find myself approving so much of a Tory until Rory Stewart- and if he had fought an election against say Ed Miliband or some other Blairite is probably vote for him.

Surprised he was eliminated, even if it was a ballot of MPs. I would have thought the positive reaction he’s had would appeal to those choosing who to stick up for the ballot.

It really does say a lot about the process though. MPs given the ultimate power to choose a PM will put up two identical candidates. What a fantastic democracy we live in!

Choosing a party leader has never really been democratic. Until fairly recently the Tories decided by something called 'emergence' whereas Labour had an 'electoral college' system where the trade unions decided.

It should be internal business though. You wouldn't vote for the CEO of your employer would you? A run off between John the porter vs Rita the cleaner. You'd expect the board to decide that.

Also remember that the membership of both parties is pretty nuts. They are way more extreme than the MPs. So it's probably a good idea that MPs can weed out some of the worst options.

You really are quite hilarious.

I am not crying, I am not even upset, rather Im just kind of amused and bemused.

I am not right wing. I am not a hypocrite. I am perfectly capable of holding a conversation on here - even with those I rather disagree with.

Most of all though, I do try to engage.

You? You blunder in with blasts of rhetoric, pretty well always missing the point/completely incorrect, but always aggressive and often rather offensive. Bull in a china shop stuff.

Its baffling, at least it was until I began to consider you a zealot. Then it starts to make a lot of sense. You are so far into your ideology you have lost all sense, perspective and reason.

THAT is what makes you a crackpot.

Yep, more name calling from you. What a Kool Aid drinker, Gulp!!

So it's OK for green peace to act how they want by entering private functions, property, ships etc, but lay a hand on them and its assault.
I look forward to the police and the courts now being over run with green peace activists turning themselves in for all their past crimes.

Frog marching her out of the room in the way he did was not a good look and rather unnecessary. Not sure it was his job to do that anyway. If you put your hand on anyone in the workplace these days, chances are you will get into trouble. There are better ways to deal with a situation.

His counterpoint to that (not that I believe it) is that she had illegally got past security and was heading towards the Chancellor. Without knowing if she was armed or not, it was the only sensible thing to do.

Where were the security? Tbh not really Mark Field's job to do their's for them.

But what a brave MP he was to risk all for the sake of a lame duck Chancellor..... etc....etc..... flimflam. You know that's how it will play out!

Massive fail for security BTW, but I know from experience that staff at that kind of event are very, very scared of upsetting guests. A dinner suit and an air of belonging are usually enough to get through most doors. The only times I've really seen it to be different are with US dignitaries and the Olympic Committee - that lot had more security and expenses than I've ever seen.

She's also got something shiny in her left hand, that could at first glance potentially be a knife.

I'm cool with aggressive forms of protest (this, egg throwing etc.), but you have to be prepared to accept aggressive forms of self-defence. Self-preservation is the most instinctive of all human behaviours
