Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I think Stewart has got a bit of a 'Gareth Southgate last summer' vibe about him. The quiet determined guy with bags of integrity, who could unite the dressing room, then the country.

He is the smariest thing I have seen in some time, if any of the Tory members vote for him and expect anything different from May then they really are stupid.

He's got integrity bit he's absolutely not a leader. I'm not even sure he'd make much of a deputy either.

He's just a bit weak. Last night he was the smartest, most honest and most well informed person in the room and he didn't command it at all.
How did you think Southgate would have interviewed in 2017 if he had say redknapp, sherwood, mourinho and allardyce in the room shouting over him? I just don't think that format suited him. Leadership that is quiet and thoughtful is often the best kind

For one that works alone maybe. A leader needs to be a far stronger character than him - or Corbyn for that matter.

John Major was bright but a poor leader. As was Shouldhavebeenhisbrother Miliband.

I like Stewart and Javid; no time for any of the rest. i don't trust Stewart to deliver Brexit though. It's a shame this isn't happening after Brexit - he'd be perfect for a getting back to the domestic agenda time.
Javid the arch opportunist who would step over anyone to get where he wants to be? No thanks would prefer Johnson. Now Stewart is out I couldn’t care less about the others.

I genuinely think Johnson is the absolute worst for it. No scruples at all, he will fudge our entire nation over to satisfy his own ego. The man is dangerous.

None of which is intended to support Javid, rather the "would prefer Johnson" statement was a bit much for me!

Yeah, but £500 per month tax cut.......

£500 or not, Boris is basically a Bond villain as far as I can see.

If we really are looking at he or Corbyn for the next 5 years then I may have to go pro-Remain, at least within the EU the damage they could do is limited.

And Id also have to start voting monster raving looney party, its the only sane choice...

Not sure what 'f.cking a whole nation over' does for your ego.....he'd probably be more concerned about his own safety.

Looking at the overall landscape and routes/options aavilable .....thats been my thinking for a while now.

Ive become quite anti-EU. There if far more I dislike about it than like. And have said for a while Id much rather all out (or in) than Soft Brexit/BINO.

However, if we end up with Boris or Corbyn running things, I would seriously have to consider what is the least-worst option. And right now I thhink Id lean to no Brexit.

I'm not sure either will still be party leader by the time of the 2022 election.

Corbyn is 70 now and I think will engineer a succession at least a year before the GE. I think he just wants to make sure the structures are in place to guarantee that the person will be another Bennite (Long-Bailey seems his preference at the moment)

And Johnson won't last 18 months in the job before a scandal or coup brings him down.

2022 - Long-Bailey vs Stewart?

You assume itll take that long for one to come around. Given the impasse in the house RE Brexit, and Boris' not being elected (as with May) I think it more likely an election will be called long before then.

And if Corbyn and Boris have one thing in common its that they want that job more than anything and will screw anyone over to get there.

With the fixed-term parliament act, you can't get mid-term GEs now unless both sides confidently believe they can win it. And the Tories will definitely have learnt from 2017. They will also want to get the boundary changes through before one too.
