Paulinho

Re: Official - Paulinho

He's our best midfielder. Not by much on current form. But its his first 6 months here. I hope he plays tomorrow. Would be more like 30m. Who else would we get? You need to keep your good players and add to them. Article is load of bolocks anyway.

:ross:

Re: Official - Paulinho

Paulinho is a good footballer. I've seen him enough times for Corinthians and Brazil to see how important a player he can be to our club. But he has been poor since he has signed for us. Looked good against Palace and Swansea admittedly, got the ball, played it nice and simple, pulled off a nut meg every now and then but he got praise on here after those two games, like "he has been at the club for years" was a popular one used, then after the Arsenal game it all sort of went down hill.

It's like he has gotten worse as the season has gone on. Funnily enough, like our season in general. Started off well, then slowly our performances got worse, sacked a manager, then knocked out of the quarter finals of a domestic cup etc. etc.

I'm hoping it is just "first season syndrome" and he gets stronger towards the end of the season and is in the plans for next year under a new manager. You don't really want to be wasting £17,000,000 and I'd like for him to be a success. Here's hoping.

Then again, seems a lot on here would rather see him fail just to say "i told you so" when they said he was "****"

Re: Official - Paulinho

He looked a totally different player in the recent Brazil games. Seemed to have much more energy, awareness and movement.

Re: Official - Paulinho

Oh no how could we cope without him.

He'll come good. He looked like a one-legged horse on ketamine under AVB, but there's a new manager now who'll probably let him play a bit more, which I suspect will do wonders as that tactical rigidity disappears and he is afforded more freedom to react to opposition moves and fashion his own.

Long-term, we will need a system, a style of play that is consistent three, five, even ten years down the line. But I'm slowly coming around to the idea that a bit of short-term 'run abaht a bit' style play could help players new to the league to adjust in their own way, at their own pace.

Re: Official - Paulinho

"No better than Livermore."
"If he was English he would just be another Jenas"
"£17m out the window"
"Why oh why"

;) All paraphrases and all slightly exaggerated perhaps. Not having a go, just happy that he's proving himself.

I think, as has been speculated, that a rest did him well. He's been playing a lot of football for a long time under a lot of pressure now. Remember Sandro's first season, only started one league cup game in the first half of the season. Slightly different age and very different players, but I think people have been expecting Paulinho to be performing at his best a bit too soon.

Re: Official - Paulinho

Maybe we should wait until after the game at least? no scrap that...maybe we should wait until after a few games?

Actually we should wait until the end of the season and then wait a bit longer until a couple of months into the next one. But after some of the criticism that I think has been premature at best and possibly outright uncalled for I think some positive premature reactions after those 45 minutes were in order ;)

Re: Official - Paulinho

he has done well today......needs to add a goal though

Re: Official - Paulinho

The Paulinho we saw today is the Paulinho I have known from the past. I hope more of the same.

Re: Official - Paulinho

If I were to read my posts in this thread, they would be something like:

"Yessss! What a player, Paulinho is a beast we're gonna win the league with Mousa, Sandro and Pauli, 4-3-3"

"Decent player, can't wait for him to settle so we see more."

"Not quite sure what he brings the team to be honest. "

"This guy is anonymous, I wonder if we've wasted our money."

"OMG what a player! MOTM, Charlie Adam you ****er you might have ruined our season "

This just keeps happening to us, doesn't it?

bum we have only just got him back.

Re: Official - Paulinho

The guy was great today working up near the strikers, showed some awesome bits of skill. Still think he needs some shooting sessions though

Re: Official - Paulinho

Sherwood:

"He was immense today. He was fantastic, I never knew he possessed that, I have to be honest," he added.

"He certainly opened my eyes up when I saw him out there today."
