OMT - Tottingham Hotspurs v Manchester Utd

It is always sweet beating ManU in any competitions. After all, ManU are the team who have affected us the most on and off the field during the PL era. I think AVB deserves some credit for changing our mentality and luck against ManU when we beat them away and drew with them at home in 2013. Remember, the injury time goal by Dempsey to make it 1-1 against ManU at home in 2013 ? That seems to be our turning point as we are now unbeaten in 5 league matches against ManU at home since then. Hope Pochettino can and the team can continue our good home form against ManU for a very long time and improve our away form against them as well.

Being our last match at WHL, we duly played well and should have won by a bigger scoreline. But we wasted too many chances and failed to kill the game off. It almost became costly for us as ManU managed to score and put pressure on us in the second half. Fortunately for us, we managed to held them off and get this morale boosting win. Credit to Wanyama and Kane for the goals. It was a crucial time for Wanyama to score so early in the first half. It allowed us to settle down. Strangely, Wanyama has now scored in our first and last home league match of the season. Wanyama has now scored 3 league goals, which is more than Dembele or Dier this season. It was also great to see Kane scoring his first ever goal against ManU. He was also unlucky not to score another when his close range header hit the post in the first half. Too bad Alli didn't score but he did have a shot saved on the goal line in the second half.

Our midfield did well to control the match. Was worried to see Dembele not starting in midfield. But the likes of Wanyama, Dier and Eriksen did their part well to control the match. Credit to Eriksen for getting the assist for Kane's goal. But wish Eriksen has managed to score as well. He should have scored from the chance he had after Son's shot was saved in the first half. Son played well but really should have scored from the one-on-one chance.

Thought our defence played well for most of the match but really disappointed with the way we conceded the goal. Annoyingly, ManU had not scored away at any of the top 6 teams and we duly let them score the last ever goal at WHL ! It was a soft goal as Trippier, Alderweireld and Vertongthen should have done much better to prevent the goal. It could have been costly for us as they put us under pressure after that. Well done to Davies for assisting the goal for Wanyama with a inch perfect cross.

We have now completed the season with 17 win and 2 draws at home in the league this season . It was great to stay unbeaten in all our league matches at home for the first time since 1965. We have also won 14 consecutive home league matches for the first time since 1987. It was a fitting tribute to WHL. Too bad our great home form didn't help us win the league title this season. Hope we will extend our unbeaten run at home for a long time to help us win the league title in the coming years.

Nice summary.

Is it me, or is Spurs7891 reading less like those algorithm-driven "news" stories you read on the web these days?

Nice to see he is still buying the Playfair Bumper Book of Trivial facts as well. :)
