Also - can anyone (Mods?) explain why the word spelt extremely similarly to ‘Muzlim’, with one letter changed, is seemingly filtered to ‘bacon dodger’ here, which I find highly offensive and unnecessary?

I did not know this had been added to our profanity filter and was wondering why people were using the term - I have removed it now.

Great result, with the team acquitting themselves well. Delighted to be in the next round with what looks to be a home banker.

I feel compelled to report it was all tinged by a hugely uncomfortable experience walking up the High Road when some loudmouth, racist scumbag decided to insert himself into mine and my mate’s conversation about the Budget.

Things he relayed to me in a sweary, aggressive manner, with every other phrase seemingly punctuated by calling some group of people he was angry at ‘fudging clams’…

- He pays no tax
- He was proud to attend last week’s Tommy Robinson march
- The country is ‘fudged’
- The Southport tragedy is a ‘fudging disgrace’
- That I was likely undercover police

When I tried to slow down, he slowed down with us, and when I tried to change the subject to the game he proceeded to tell me we wouldn’t win as ‘we’re bottlers’, that ‘Richarlison is brick’, ‘Solanke is a waste of space’, ‘Udogie is lazy’ - anyone see a pattern here?

He proceeded to then use all manner of disgusting racist and racial epithets to describe a variety of nationalities, religions and ethnicities by which point I decided to calmly (truthfully) tell him ‘my brother and sister-in-law are Muslim, I don’t appreciate your comments’.

Luckily, he didn’t give me a smack, but decided to skulk off, and likely bother some other poor soul who was looking forward to an exciting match.

It probably doesn’t sound that bad written down, but I feel sad to say I felt very intimidated - I’m sure he was off his head on something - yet ashamed I didn’t challenge him further on the bigoted bile he was spewing for over ten minutes.

Sorry all, I just had to get it out as it’s been gnawing at me for the last 24 hours.

COYS and fudge off racist scum.
Reasons to feel intimidated definitely comes across. No need to feel ashamed, there's a time to challenge racism, but it's not when feeling intimidated by a stranger that probably won't take on a word you're saying anyway.

I think it sounds a lot worse than you are making it out to be.
Unfortunately these idiots walk among us, they are intimidating especially when they catch us off guard like that.
Hope getting it off your chest helps, ease the trauma a little.
Maybe next time he tries it someone will report him to the nearest police officer.

he sounds drunk and unfortunately your paths crossed.

don't take it personally and don't let him get into your head, he's probably forgotten about you minutes after parting.

but yeah racism - and any kind of discrimination - sucks.

To be honest, in hindsight, it was and that’s why I do feel a bit shaken by it all. He told me he liked ‘Jews, as ‘at least’ they work hard, but he fudging hated ‘Muzzers’ who apparently ‘don’t work’. He didn’t stop to catch breath at all, which made it all the more intense.

Luckily, I’ve never come across anyone that unhinged in my life before, so I guess it figures it came as a shock.

I just also feel bad because I’m not even the target of his anger and feel like this. I can only wonder how others who experience racism or discrimination feel every single day.

I'm hoping to attend my first ever Spurs game at the new stadium early next year. Hopefully won't encounter such a person. I wonder if you got very unlucky or if there's a fair number around on matchdays.
Might be confusing or infuriating for them though as I'm mixed-race and look as such, but would be with my obviously white father.

Sounds horrific. I’m sorry you had to listen to that drivel. They walk among us, unfortunately. I can understand your frustration but not confronting him more directly was sensible; you’d no idea how he was going to react.

Having been many times, I think it was very bad luck.

Sounds like an awful experience @DaveT316 and quite frankly, given the area and the diversity, very bizzare.

I do suspect a lot of people who might be connected to the club (or crawl out when a mass of people are attending a game) and have those kinds of views will only dare talk like that so openly when they feel a large crowd might allow them some form of 'cover'....i can't see such a person even trying to talk in such ways on a normal day down there as the diversity of the area means there is a risk someone will react far more quickly and not in a, erm, healthy way if you now what i mean.

@JerusalemMan you will almost certainly be fine on any match day. What @DaveT316 went through would be rare from my experience. Though you can never be too sure how a mass of football fans can behave on any given day (see the Spurs female fan assaulted on the train after the Brentford game...)

@DaveT316 hope you can 'wash off' that memory in time and instead remember the match itself more fondly

I echo this last point and please don’t let it put you off. It was so shocking as I’ve never encountered anything like it in 30+ years going to Spurs.

I’ve also been punched in the face - unprovoked - in Central London a few years back, so I think that also probably played into why I didn’t feel comfortable challenging them.

As others have mentioned, super unlucky, don't let it put you off, especially nowadays, super diverse support, diverse area and lots of families attend games.

@DaveT316 sorry to hear mate, glad you managed your way out of it ..

I looked at Bluemoon and their take is that it was basically their U18s with a couple of backup players given a rare outing comprehensively outplaying our first team. Then the usual mocking of our players and fans celebrating like we'd won the league, we'll lose as soon as we meet someone decent and they're better off out of that Mickey Mouse competition anyway.

It was
They even had this lad called Joseph Gvardiol who was so inexperienced he threw us the ball

We're told discretion is a the better part of valour, so kudos for bravely pointing out your rellies are Muslim. Brilliant way to puncture his vitriolic racism.

Have to say it was a bit of a strange crowd last night. Both in a good way and bad(ish). Lots of ST holders not attending, cheap cup game, half term, lots of factors. Bad? Bloke 2 rows in front of us, whom I would imagine was not amongst "his own", with his two mid teenage sons, all totally off their t!ts and spouting bile all through the game (might be your geezer Dave?). Good? Loads of kids last night. The next generation 👍 What a game for them to see.
Hopefully, Jerusalem, you'll come to a game where you'll be around people who treat each other and the community with the respect we all deserve. There'll always be d!ckheads, but they tend to be obvious and therefore avoidable.

Mid-week cup games tend to be that way.

Unfortunately still a few that get way too fudged up at games and get into fight mode, but really the atmosphere most days is way more family friendly than a decade ago.

Personally I think it's been night and day in terms of the attacking threat we carry with him in the team versus when he's been out. Yes, he's fluffed many opportunities in the final third and yes we've had some bad results with him in the team but the general attacking threat has been increased with him in it. When Moore came in for him against Palace look at how blunt we looked comparatively. While he may fluff his lines he consistently roasts whoever the other team's full back is and plays right on the shoulder all game. It creates panic and stops them gaining confidence in the game as they're constantly being turned over.
Against Palace we looked equally blunt once Werner came on. Our problem was not the wide players, it was the press Palace exerted don us and our inability to play around that.

For all the roasting of the FB you think he does he rarely ever does anything productive with the ball, so yes we do have plenty of bad results and performances with him in the team because he isn't adding goals or assists. Which frankly as a wide attacker he has to do.

Aesthetics don't matter, productivity and effectiveness do and Werner is greatly lacking in those two areas.

The only game we have lost with him playing is Brighton away so the bad results but isn’t correct for this season so far

And against Brighton we played some absolutely blinding stuff for the first half despite the end result.
We did
But I actually think that first half is misleading
It seemed to be quick and brilliant but when I saw some stats afterwards I was kinda in shock. Kulu completed something* like 18 passes bu5 in my head he was ruling that half
It was an odd game for sure
