***OMT Tottenham Hotspur vs Emirates Marketing Project ***

Personally I think it's been night and day in terms of the attacking threat we carry with him in the team versus when he's been out. Yes, he's fluffed many opportunities in the final third and yes we've had some bad results with him in the team but the general attacking threat has been increased with him in it. When Moore came in for him against Palace look at how blunt we looked comparatively. While he may fluff his lines he consistently roasts whoever the other team's full back is and plays right on the shoulder all game. It creates panic and stops them gaining confidence in the game as they're constantly being turned over.

The problem is it all falls down when he has to deliver a final pass or score a goal which are the most important aspects of being a winger/forward. The build up play is important for sure but given how many goals we concede, we can’t afford to be so wasteful at the other end. I’m not saying he doesn’t have his pros but not enough to be starter IMO.

A lot has been said about how we approach our buildup play and why we primarily try to play through pressure.

End of the first half and start of the second I think illustrated why Ange sticks so steadfastly to trying to play through pressure the vast majority of the time.

At the end of the first we half we were forced long a few times. The ball just came back and we were under pressure again. Playing through the pressure didn't work either. We got besieged.

From the start of the second half City pretty much tried to keep up the same pressing it seemed to me. We weren't forced long though. And our press breaking play actually worked. We got great attacks from it and easily could have gotten a third.

Not only did that create good attacks, that also helped change the game a bit. That actually relived pressure on us. In a way long balls probably wouldn't have.

That imo is part of why Ange "insists" with playing that way, for example against Palace. We have to get good enough at doing that often enough, also in difficult circumstances.

How many goals do we concede?
I don't think it's that bad.

The first goal, if scored by another side, would be shown on repeat everywhere for how good it was

If you mean when the City player attempted to throw the ball to the keeper and Richy got there first, is that really us creating a chance? I suppose it is by means of pressure.. Annoying though, he definitely should have scored it to kill off the game.

What I saw yesterday was the joy of having two pit bulls like Solanke and Richarlison on the pitch at the same time. Some forwards when pressing are just begrudgingly through the motions because it's what they've been told to do. Whereas with those two forwards they're just relentless and have belief they can get the ball or at least scare the defender into a bad decision / rushed pass. Big Dom was fudgein knackered by the end and you can see why.
Yes.
And Solanke seems pretty clever in the direction of pressing. It's not just about charging up to an opponent to make them rush a pass, he seems to usually be cutting off a passing option at the same time.

Great game
Great atmosphere
Great result

My heart needs a rest though

I know it was a depleted City, but that was possibly the best most disciplined defensive performance we've had under Ange in that second half.
Special shout outs to Dragusin (who improved when he moved to rcb, was decent as lcb but kept getting into awkward positions because we kept playing it to him to have to use his left), Davies (hardly noticed him and that showed how good he was), Kulu, Solanke, Werner, Sarr, Udogie (even with his lax defending at times he did bust a gut), Bentancur and Bissouma.

Tbh, i should really give a whole team shout-out, right?

So got a phone call yesterday lunchtime saying someone had dropped out so ended up going to the game.

What I saw was a good game. It was a game where you can only be impressed by how Pep coaches his philosophy through his entire squad. I thought O'Reilly and Lewis looked sensational at times. I think the big difference is that Pep's 1st team know how to turn this great football into chances and goals. I'm not sure some of City's younger players did.

As for us, my MOTM was Solanke by a long way. I genuinely feel that if we had a striker in the mould of the current Kane, we would have lost this match. Solanke was so intelligent how he led the line and left everything, and I mean everything, out there on that pitch. When you play sides better than you, you just have to dig as deep as possible and keep working your arse off. Richi added more of that when he came on. I genuinely think Johnson needs to look in the mirror when seeing how much harder his team mates work defensively compare to him.

It was nice to see the double pivot back in midfield and it made a big difference, especially the longer the game went on. Kulu started brilliantly, but faded whereas Bents and Sarr or Biss just kept biting and biting at the accomplished City players. Gray was learning about the big jump from Championship to PL and that will do him no harm.

All in all, a great night for the club in my opinion. I would also say, almost the perfect warmup to Sunday's big match. Villa will have some of what Palace gave us, and some of what City gave us but won't be as good at either.

Kulu and Johnson seems to be forming a good understanding on the right. Really first started to show from the Man Utd game imo, but exploded somewhat in the first half vs Brighton...long may it continue...

Was nice to see Pep and Ange have a little friendly chat and smiling at the end of the game yesterday.

Maybe Pep has a soft spot for spurs because we play positive football and don't resort to the dark arts !

Great result, with the team acquitting themselves well. Delighted to be in the next round with what looks to be a home banker.

I feel compelled to report it was all tinged by a hugely uncomfortable experience walking up the High Road when some loudmouth, racist scumbag decided to insert himself into mine and my mate’s conversation about the Budget.

Things he relayed to me in a sweary, aggressive manner, with every other phrase seemingly punctuated by calling some group of people he was angry at ‘fudging clams’…

- He pays no tax
- He was proud to attend last week’s Tommy Robinson march
- The country is ‘fudged’
- The Southport tragedy is a ‘fudging disgrace’
- That I was likely undercover police

When I tried to slow down, he slowed down with us, and when I tried to change the subject to the game he proceeded to tell me we wouldn’t win as ‘we’re bottlers’, that ‘Richarlison is brick’, ‘Solanke is a waste of space’, ‘Udogie is lazy’ - anyone see a pattern here?

He proceeded to then use all manner of disgusting racist and racial epithets to describe a variety of nationalities, religions and ethnicities by which point I decided to calmly (truthfully) tell him ‘my brother and sister-in-law are Muslim, I don’t appreciate your comments’.

Luckily, he didn’t give me a smack, but decided to skulk off, and likely bother some other poor soul who was looking forward to an exciting match.

It probably doesn’t sound that bad written down, but I feel sad to say I felt very intimidated - I’m sure he was off his head on something - yet ashamed I didn’t challenge him further on the bigoted bile he was spewing for over ten minutes.

Sorry all, I just had to get it out as it’s been gnawing at me for the last 24 hours.

COYS and fudge off racist scum.
