I really can't understand why CCV is still here, all he does is play a few pre season friendlies then gets shipped out on loan then repeats again next year. It's about time we shipped him out, he's never going to make it for us.

I really can't understand why CCV is still here, all he does is play a few pre season friendlies then gets shipped out on loan then repeats again next year. It's about time we shipped him out, he's never going to make it for us.
We should be aiming to win this, yes it's not prestigious but it's a trophy that brings prize money and co-efficient points as well as valuable game time for fringle players.

He's here because we haven't received a bid we'd want to accept. So he's been sent out on loan to help his development, save some wages and wait to see if we get an offer we can accept.
Fairly standard for a young player that hasn't developed to the point of being a first team player.
Yes try and win but use the fringe players. Leave the first team for the league.
We were top of the league last november. But our early qualifiers for the euros and 9 games in dec and jan killed the team. They were shattered.
We finished 5 points off of a cl place. And lost the cup final.

First team players being rather heavily involved in EL qualifiers last season is an interesting contrast.
We probably needed EL football more than we need this competition. Money, corona, all that. But I doubt those EL qualifiers helped our fitness levels as the season progressed. That's neither an excuse or condemnation of the not so special one.
I like the gamble. Like against City Nuno is showing courage and conviction imo. That in itself isn't enough, but it's good to see.
He's brave and willing to make calls, always good to see.
Also like in his post interview he was clear -> no excuses

I like Nuno but last night was so disheartening to watch. The ‘team’ and I use the word loosely, ‘group’ may be more applicable, we're dreadful. IMHO the most disheartening and chaotic Spurs performance of recent history.

Agree on all counts. For years I have wanted a manager to leave the first team at home for qualifiers and EL group games, finally we have manager brave enough to do it!
I think those EL qualifiers helped early in the season to raise the fitness levels which may have been a factor in why we got good results early on but then had a punishing effect as the season wore on due to the number of games and a reduced pre-season due to covid.
Nobody will want to go to the second leg after watching the first.

Admittedly I didnt watch (for the very reason of expecting what happened) but I don't really see what the big deal is. Whenever we select a reserve team made up of players who dont usually play for one reason or another, the performance is rubbish playing like a team of strangers which they are- and that goes for just about every team who puts out a makeshift team, not just ours. This is far from a priority whether we want to win it or not, and having such a disjointed pre season its not a good idea to over play the first team already. We will likely go through, playing a similar team at home with a few of the big boys on the bench if needed....

I'd add, having these games is worth it for Nuno. He has much tinkering, evaluating, upto speeding of existing first team squad and fringe/youth players. A bunch of these games early in the season is valuable for that process.
Also any competitition that doesn't have Chelsea City Man U and Liverpool in is 10X more winnable. Co-eff points, £15m and a EL spot (you dont even get that for the Carabao now)

I think we just treat it in a similar way.....if we win two games i think we are then in the quarters and maybe then take it seriously.?
I think the two leg semis are back this season, and they do clog January up (especially after he busy xmas period)

Considering the team, we actually weren't that bad
- Zero creativity, turned over the ball too much, first ten to fifteen minutes we had them a little on the ropes
- Alternatively they didn't create brick either, Gollini had no saves to make other than the goal
The biggest issue yesterday was -> Winks, Doherty, CCV & Davies (i.e. the "senior" players) were the worst of the lot.
Again, this is what fans have talked about for year, play the kids, I actually think it was a great message to them, we trust you, make it happen, no backup on the bench to bail you out.
Barring a thumping in the first leg, this was always a sensible gamble (Nuno knows he needs a good start in the PL)
We've had a lot of "worst performances" in the last few years in the early rounds of Europe.
