Yeah, but they almost couldn't get any worse. Before Bruce, they played 11 league games and had 1 win!
Since then, 14 league games: P14 W7 D4 L3. Much better under Bruce, 1.78 points per game (which would currently be good enough for 6th place over the course of the season).
Also (under Bruce) 7 away games (league): P7 W2 D2 L3 (1.14 points per away game, bumps them up to 13th in the 'away' league table if replicated over the season so far).
Priority - Eriksen, Rose & Dier get day off. Son & Janssen start
Vorm, CCV, Wimmer, Trippier, Winks should be part of regular rotation.
The Villa fans are even more excited than we are:
They probably accept that they have no chance to win the cup so it makes sense for them to play a weakened side as they need to get back in the Prem, that is different from our situation as we could win the cup( as long as we do not fudge about with weaken sides).
This is a positive thread for positive people. There's nothing for you here.
You don't think we can beat Villa with mostly squad players?
Maybe, however the phrase " famous last words" come to mind when i hear others say we can beat them with mostly squad players. I have no problem giving the likes of Jannsen, Sissoko, Son a game here but some of the teams i have heard mentioned would/could bring that phrase into reality.
Agree with most, wholesale changes to the squad is a recipe for an embarrassment.
I'd probably go with:
Vorm
-
Trippier Alderweireld Verts Davies
-
Dier Winks
-
Son Dembele Nkoudou
-
Janssen
4-1 win.
Then have the likes of CCV, Edwards, Onomah on the bench to come on second half and Kane, Alli, Eriksen in case of disaster.
Winks is part of our second eleven at the moment.This. Play the second eleven, mixed with (at max) one youngster in the form of Winks and one or two first teamers to keep the rest on their toes (Toby and Dier, perhaps - Toby's had an enforced rest anyway, and Dier's roles as CB/DM can be covered by Wanyama and Wimmer if we want to give him a rest later on).
Don't go throwing Edwards, Onomah and CCV into the fray, please.
Some sort of a role for Sissoko would make that lineup perfect. He's fresh, no doubt raring to go, and he's been good enough to warrant a start or two that he hasn't unortunately been afforded (understandably) due to fixture constraints. @Sandman's lineup was pretty much what I would have put out.

That looks good to me. Hopefully get ahead early and score a few to make it comfortable to bring Dier and Toby off.I think that's fair enough. Toby and Dier from the Chelsea game would probably be enough imo. That still leaves a potential XI of:
---------------vorm
trippier----toby----wimmer----davies
-----------dier-----winks
son-----------sissoko--------n'koudou
--------------janssen
Keep a couple of big hitters on the bench (Kane, Eriksen) and there's plenty there to beat Villa.
I don't know about the joke, but Bassong is definitely suspended. So just to clarify, the Bassong joke is now suspended?
