***OMT***Tottenham Hotspur FC v Woolwich Wanckers

What does Poch do now? We've seen us play a more effective game sitting back and playing on the break. Will he integrate this into his pressing game? If we could switch as the momentum of the game dictates, it could work well. The team would have to be ready and move together.

This was our Battle of Britain. Now we move on to D-Day

anyone else think lennon was garbage when he came on?

I presume it was a defensive sub, to help Rose out with Chambers pushing on.

It seemed inevitable that they would score and I was surprised that Lamela was left on. He was looking for petrol tickets when we conceded. Has no right foot, hence the error and also down to fatigue. Adebayor was pants. As I've said previously, look at his first 15 minutes, if it's bad, may as well drag him off. Best game Kaboul has played since he returned from Portsmouth.

You can't have it both ways guys. Of course we are a team that likes to play, but this is the first time in a long time I've seen us with a game plan. Let them have the ball, hit the counter and when they did get in the final third there was a hell of a lot of communication between our players. If Jose sets his team out against other top clubs in the same fashion to get some sort of result, he is lauded for it. We didn't play like a 'small team', we played like a TEAM with a plan.

It's unfortunate we either don't have the quality or haven't gelled up front to take our chances, if that was City/Cheatski they would have gone 2-0 up with the chances we had. But it was a solid performance rand after all the lambastings we've given the squad it's made me feel positive. We have to set up like this away from home against teams that can really hurt us. It may not be the 'Tottenham way', but we don't have the quality of Modders/Bale/VDV in recent years to hurt quality opposition away from home.

Hopefully this has given some confidence back to the team that we can mix it as long as we're smart. We just need to work out how not to lose to teams at home like WBA now ;)

Where was Stambouli today?

Don't think he's fit enough yet or up to the pace. It's a healthy thing to introduce new signings gradually.

Kane and even Dembele perhaps more notable absences, but I guess 27 into 16 doesn't go.

I think Dier would have performed better up front than Adebayor today, I can't remember anything other than his "hair cut" and him ambling back towards the centre circle.

Oh yeah, I remember him running towards a Gooner once to close him down.

Happy with that. They probably would have scored an equaliser anyway but poor by Lamela anyhow.

Poch did well I think. Clearly saw that Chiriches had a shocker last week and axed him. Good subs at the right time, although I'd probably have taken Chadli off after his goal instead of Eriksen.

Thought Naughton and Rose actually played well and if they continue like that then I'll be happy. Verts was solid as was Kaboul. That's got to be the partnership for now.

After thinking we were gonna get destroyed im happy with the point.

Drill us relentlessly in the art of pressing as a unit. We'll need to do that regardless of whether we play a high-defensive line or drop deep and play on the break. So, for Poch, the plan going forward seems clear: keep working on the team's pressing, and weed out the weak. Try to cope with one of our star players being sold next summer, and then use the funds from that sale (if our chairman deigns to let him use said funds) to buy players who'll help him implement his plan more effectively, with said players hopefully being his first choices.

In that respect, nothing's changed, really. Today was a good point. Underlying issues, however, still need to be addressed.

I think we saw today that Poch has more stings to his bow. Pressing works well against teams who are not good at passing or are lacking confidence - like us at the moment! Our lack of possession was due to scum pressing us. But it doesn't always work. Like us normally, the scum didn't do much with the possession and we were just as effective, if not more, hitting them on the break.

We need to be able to do both things. Its a potent attacking weapon to sit back soak it up and punch back and score on the break.

I kinda agree but him coming on when it went 1-0 would have been good

If we had a good confident (keyword here) attacking unit we could have torn them apart today based on that defensive performance. A potent front three.

That performance was not much different than a Man Utd performance under fergie apart for he had a front three of Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney.

It is quite possible that Poch doesn't fancy him much, and will only rotate him with Capoue at best. If it is the case, don't expect to see much of him unless he breaks out and impresses everybody enough to replace Capoue as a starter.

That would be crazy. Why sign him if not. I think he was someone Pochettino wanted (after Schneiderlin). I know how much Bielsa wanted him at Marseille

I can't imagine why you'd think that possible regarding one of the players he's just signed. Any one of the players he inherited - maybe. But one he just signed?

Okay then. Heartrate back to normal, GHod I hate watching matches at home, would much rather be there.

Naturally happy with a point as I feared today could be a whooping, but in the end gutted we havent won. That Verts break was the big chance, shame we didnt make it count.

The real Kaboul returned, long may it continue. Naughton growing into that RB role too.

Michael Oliver - you should be embarassed by some of those yellows. If players got booked for the finger-to-lip celebration Suarez would have been booked 20 times last season.

The real negative (once again), Emmanuel Abebayor, I said it after the Sunderland match, how much longer do we have to watch this clown lead the line for us? If Poch continues not to start Soldado then I would rather watch Kane upfront than have to endure that overpaid mercenary, okay he isnt as skillful, but at least he would give his all for the cause.

5 out the next 6 at home now, lets get the season off and running

That could work but at home our crowd would not allow the players to sit deep and just clear the ball.
Moreover, there was no evidence of a persistent 'pressing' game, although one could argue that Eriksen's press created the space for Lamela and the goal. Personally, I don't think Eriksen, Chadli and Ade can maintain a high-tempo pressing momentum for extended periods. Especially, if they are holding their positions. They probably need to be more flexible and interchange.
I liked the idea of leaving Chadli up, with Ade but we could have done by getting the ball to them quicker, I think with a few more games Mason, Capoue and Eriksen will start to do this, but they will need to be given the licence to do this.

If Poch really wants to play with high intensity all the time, then he will have to go with Lennon, on the right, Lamela in the middle and Townsend on the left. They have the necessary energy levels. With Lennon good at helping the RB, and Townsend or Lamela helping the left back.

Her kids will be ;) I will make sure of that

Join the queue :p

Seems all you need to do is show her a chocolate fountain and she's good to go...

Yup was a relief to see our back line actually look solid today but, apart from Chadli, we're toothless up front. Really hope that Lamela can break his league scoring duck soon [-o<
