~ OMT ~ TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC v Liverpool FC ~ THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL ~ 2019 ~

Man of the match

Defensively he is weak, and will be targetted. He'll also have Sissoko and Alderweireld looking out for him, and (hopefully) Moura ahead and tracking back.

I dont think its the end of the world, even if I would really love better options.

Offensively? He could be a key man, more so than any of the other options.

Liverpool playing on the break, high fullbacks etc - who would you want getting the ball around the half way line on his flank with space to pass into?

Trippier can be absolutely deadly from those positions, and they are the sort of chances/half chances that will be presented. Him getting a turn over and suddenly Son in space with a run on VVD...

Sanchez/Aurier/Dier/Whoever - none of them would match up to Trippier in those areas.

Sissoko having to help out with RB leaves a massive hole in the centre of the park.

His passing has also been a liability at times and his crossing as well.

If the alternatives were better I don’t think you’d get any disagreement, but you’re suggesting Aurier, a rusty (being generous) Aurier at that.

It’s going to be our weakest position on the pitch by a distance no matter who we select.

I honestly don’t see how a player that has been at fault for 3/4 goals in the last few CL games is the best of the options, no matter the weakness of others.

It is what it is, and has been all season. I would be amazed if Poch decided to change it now, especially for a player that hasnt had a game in three months.

Passing wise - yes Trippier has his poor moments, but yes - he also has genuine quality too. His crossing, passing, through balls can be top drawer, and I wouldnt be at all surprised if Poch was banking on some magic there.

You have to say; the difference is noticeable

That's proper crappy. Not far off Champo standard, that.

UEFA stitch-up, what else is new. Hope Poch kicks up a fuss about it - build up a real underdog meteorology, the world is against us, so go out and f*ck the world.

It's natural that the home dressing rooms are superior, as are ours at NWHL, it's a small part of home advantage. But given Spurs were drawn as the home side it is unfair that UEFA decide to give Liverpool the home dressing rooms for the incompletely explained reason that they have more fans coming and that they are arriving from a different direction. I mean what does that mean? It's completely bizarre and makes no sense, unless they are expecting some unstated behaviour from the Liverpool fans.

UEFA should be pressed for a proper explanation for the change.

Not so sure, I’d rest a few for this one. We’ve got a Prem game coming up in August.
And you forgot the Nations League and WC qualifying. Can't knacker our players in a CL final when there are such important games coming up.

On the team front, I'd play both Moura and Son and use Kane in a Llorente-type role (with the difference being that Kane can do so much more and is much more mobile). That should give the Lollerpool back line quite a bit to worry about and also ease the burden on Kane, who will be coming back from injury.

I would also play Foyth at right back. Trippier will get torched by Mane.

Lloris

Foyth -- Toby -- Verts -- Rose

Eriksen -- Sissoko -- Alli

Son -- Kane -- Lucas
4-3-3. fudge it.

Which of the following will happen?
  • Spurs player gets sent off in the first ten minutes
  • Penalty for Pool in the first ten minutes
  • Key Spurs player gets injured/sent off when we are 2-1 down in the 75th minute and the momentum is with us
Not saying we will lose at all but I can envisage one or more of the above happening.

So many people wanting it to play it safe and inevitably lose to Liverpool
We need to take a risk, give ourselves a chance and play Wink, Aurier and Kane.
Rather than having Trippier inevitably fudge up and watching Wanyama be a spectator in midfield.

Without wishing to waylay this thread to far off topic, my opinion on Kane is that his time out injured coupled with VVD and Matip wanting someone to mark will nullify him. I'd rather have us start with the two pace merchants we have stretching them and at least giving their full backs something to think about before going forward.

Pulled this out of the Winks thread, seemed only fair.

The thing with runners and no focal point is that they just end up in nomansland, we have seen it countless times.

And while Llorente has done a job, Kane would be ultimately superior.

Matip/VVD might get the better of him in the air etc, but he can push them back or draw them out when dropping deeper - and is MUCH more likely to play passes to cut them open than Llorente is.

Hence the team I put up pages ago was a Moura - Kane - Son frontline.

The runners will likely be the ones to do the damage, but imo they NEED Kane to play off of/around/with.

Already feeling nervous about this match ! This is easily our biggest ever Cup final ! Bigger than all the FA Cups, League Cups, UEFA Cups and Cup Winners Cup we have ever won ! It is a chance to be called European Champions which we have never had such a chance before ! It is a miracle we are even in the CL Final. Not sure if or when we will ever be in another CL final ! So, we have to make sure we win it ! Since this is our first time to be in the CL Final, compared to Liverpool who have won it 5 times before, we should demand that the football world, especially the neutrals, should support us !

Dele has to play behind the main striker he just doesn't play to his full potential when in a midfield 2 or 3.

I agree ,therefore Eriksen has to drop in alongside Sissoko imo.
Kane , Moura and Son should all play , leaving no starting place for Winks, who is behind Kane for fitness and while excellent on the ball in tight areas ,rarely hits a killer pass and his off the ball work defensively worries me.

Poch has often stuck by Lorente, surely he won't start , will he?

I agree we have to give it a go and not be too conservative.
I don't think Wanyama, Dier or Winks should start.
Don't want Trippier in the team but not convinced about Aurier, especially after a long absence.
I would prefer Foyth at rb to all of them tbh.

The personnel is right but I don't think the formation is. Dele will be wasted there. Wouldn't want Eriksen ending up out wide trying to help out our RB ( probably Trippier).
I would prefer 4-2-3-1 with Dele pushing up close to Kane and interchanging with him, they both link up very well.
Moura and Son will have to work their nuts off ,as will Eriksen and Sissoko at the base of the midfield. The scousers will work incredibly hard as we have seen , if we can match their work rate and intensity I believe our ability can swing it in our favour.
I believe this side and formation can do a number on the scousers *

* If we stop conceding too many set pieces and corners and when we do ,we defend them properly *

I'm more worried about this than goals from open play.
We need a plan to defend set plays !
