Just go mad for the win

This. Except I would put Sanchez at right back. And tell him not to venture too far forward. Would also tell Lucas & Son to work harder than ever before up and down the flanks..

I haven’t posted a team or tactics in this thread yet. My feeling is that Poch will pick the fit players he thinks will win with tactics he things we’ll win and hopefully WE WILL WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. But I still think that after the first three games in the group stage he should have played the kids so we could focus on getting CL through the league. Or prioritize the FA Cup. How I wish we’d beaten Palace and then the season would have ended sooner than it will now. Bloody Poch. What does he do? Everybody dance now!

You are jinxing a time honoured tradition you custard human...

Slovenia’s Damir Skomina to referee Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool

Slovenia’s Damir Skomina will take charge of the Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool in Madrid.

It will be the 42-year-old's first Champions League final but he does have experience officiating in European football's showpiece events.

He refereed the Europa League final between Ajax and Manchester United in 2017, as well as the Super Cup encounter between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in 2012.

Skomina has taken charge of four Champions League matches this season including Liverpool's 1-0 win at home to Napoli in December.

He was also the referee to give Manchester United a stoppage-time penalty which sent them through their last-16 match with PSG, using video technology to come to the decision.

At the Wanda Metropolitano, Skomina will be assisted by his countrymen Jure Praprotnik and Robert Vukan. The fourth official will be Antonio Mateu Lahoz from Spain.

The video assistant referee role has been assigned to Danny Makkelie from the Netherlands, who will be supported by Pol van Boekel, Felix Zwayer, and Mark Borsch.

Aurier hasnt played for us since the Dortmund game on March 5th. He did play for Ivory Coast on March 23rd (against Rwanda), and nothing since.

That would be 10 weeks from the IC game, 12.5 from his last game for us.

I dont think I would consider him ready to deal with Mane and Robertson having barely played in three months, even though he has done generally well in the CL.

Do you consider trippier ready?

I would trust serge more, even if isn’t fully match fit.

At this stage I’m anyone but trippier, he will cost us at least 1 goal

Ready? Yes. Good enough? Probably not.

Trippier hasnt been bad in his last few games, though thats hardly super encouraging. And he struggles against pacy players, so I dont like the idea of matching him up against Mane.

But Aurier hasnt played in 3 months, and is wildly inconsistent even with (semi) regular games, I think it would be mental to put him in.

In my team I posted I actually went KWP. Played the last game, fit, more mobile than Trippier, more disciplined than Aurier...

His last game he was at fault for 2 goals, he’s been getting worse in my view - Mane/Salah will destroy him - I can already see him switching off at the back post.

KWP/Dier being super disciplined would get my nod if not serge.

Im not professing any particular faith in Trippier, but between he and a rusty Aurier, it would have to be Trippier.

Its basically a best of the worst kind of decision, and regardless will be a major weak spot for us on the day IMO.

So would i, the thought of Mane running in behind Trippier is scary, Aurier has more pace and keeps his position better imo

We threw in Wanyama against city with hardly any minutes (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) and that is a more demanding position fitness wise.

They will certainly target the area as all
Teams do

First City game was 13/04, Wanyama played in games 09/04, 03/04, 02/03 and 13/02 before that. Not a huge amount, but the two games before in particular were close enough to be getting him match ready.

And.... there were basically no other options in midfield, were there?

Believe me, Im really not singing Trippiers praises here - I just think putting Aurier in after all that time out is a stretch too far.

It just seems with other option despite how flawed are better than Trippier.

I would even put Sanchez there ahead of him

Not sure about Sanchez are RB but I agree with the sentiment. I’d sooner put KWP, Dier or Foyth in there ahead of K Tripp. He’s a bad defender playing with little confidence and he’s offering next to nothing going forward.

Dutch VAR refs.... We're guarantied to get screwed, as revenge for knocking out Ajax!

That's harsh on Trippier! He's world class in passing backwards, after receiving the ball in an excellent position for making a early cross into the box.

Defensively he is weak, and will be targetted. He'll also have Sissoko and Alderweireld looking out for him, and (hopefully) Moura ahead and tracking back.

I dont think its the end of the world, even if I would really love better options.

Offensively? He could be a key man, more so than any of the other options.

Liverpool playing on the break, high fullbacks etc - who would you want getting the ball around the half way line on his flank with space to pass into?

Trippier can be absolutely deadly from those positions, and they are the sort of chances/half chances that will be presented. Him getting a turn over and suddenly Son in space with a run on VVD...

Sanchez/Aurier/Dier/Whoever - none of them would match up to Trippier in those areas.

Good post. I completely agree and I think this is also how Poch sees it.
