Official - Holtby

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in July thread

£1.6m is reasonable. We are light on the 4 most forward positions. Currently, we only have Bale, Lennon, Dempsey, Ade, and Defoe that are up to par. Sig and Townsend needs to improve and are not reliable yet. We need the add more attacking players. If anything, we will get an extended period prior to the summer transfer window to determine whether Holtby can make it with us or not.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in July thread

totally disagree - give him 6 months to get used to the club, the staff, the system, settle in to the country etc is preferable to waiting until the summer.

let him bed in.

it is then "one less" player that needs to bed in for next season

While I don't disagree with any of that, It's £1.6m - Spurs are a business, it wouldnt be done for footballing reasons.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in July thread

If £1.6m is the deal, and the player is as good as many are saying, of course we should do it now.

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in July thread

Nobody is asking them to.

We have at current count.. Livermore, Huddlestone, Parker maybe even sig who can play a central midfield position.

Which actually makes me wonder, what is our current situation per the 25 man 8 home grown squad rule thingy?

None of whom provide anything even close to what Dembele gives us. Apparently, Holtby does.

I am afraid that this might be the major factor. Then at West Brom away on the 3rd of Feb, the Mouss will have his leg broken and we will be fvcked!

Christ. 'I am thinking positively' turns into him 'warning' AVB. You couldn't write that brick. Oh wait, someone has. ](*,)

Re: *Official* Holtby to join in July thread

He has also praised AVB as a manager and did so knowing of the Lloris situation.

Sounds like AVB is not the target of his irritation and that he has a bit of a rivalry with Marin:

Asked whether he may face the same frustration as fellow Germany midfielder Marko Marin, who has struggled to force his way into the Chelsea team since leaving Werder Bremen last year, an indignant Holtby replied:

'I am not Marko Marin, I am Lewis Harry Holtby. I know what I am capable of, and I am thinking very positively about what I can do for Tottenham.'

He expects to be in the first team because he believes he is good enough to deserve it and AVB will help him do so.

Schalke's Lewis Holtby opted not to join Arsenal next season

Tottenham's latest recruit, Lewis Holtby, says he snubbed interest from Arsenal in order to play under the "insanely good" Andre Villas-Boas. Holtby, 22, has signed a deal reportedly worth £67,000 per week and is set to join Spurs in the summer upon the expiry of his current contract.

Arsene Wenger had approached the Schalke midfielder last year, but Holtby declared the decision to instead move to White Hart Lane next season was a simple one to make.

"[Tottenham] are not a small club and have an insanely good manager," Holtby explained.

"I simply had to take the offer from Tottenham. New things don't scare me, they excite me. In my opinion Tottenham is a big club in Europe.

"Tottenham have belonged to the top five in England since many years and they only missed out on the Champions League because Chelsea won the cup last year.

"Without Tottenham's offer I would have signed at Schalke. I can only repeat that Horst Heldt made a very good offer.

"I believe that I have a good relation to the fans, because I have always been authentic and honest. Now they can decide on their own how to react."

Holtby may yet complete his switch in January, with Schalke confirming they are willing to negotiate an early release for the player.
