People moan about big studios making sequels all the time. They do it because people pay to watch them.
If people stop watching them and watch original content. The studios will stop making them.

My local multiplex has 17 screens so I’m quite content for the hoi polloi to spend their money on tickets for the latest naff blockbusters plus a small fortune on novelty popcorn buckets and other such tat whilst I enjoy a quality film in a half empty auditorium with some likeminded individuals.

I suppose it’s a bit like what Michael Caine said about never intending to watch Jaws 4 but being very happy with the house it paid for!

So long as those endless superhero movies and Bridget Jones sequels keep cinemas afloat then let Hollywood keep churning them out, as it means indie movies can still get shown on silver screen and with good enough word of mouth (like The Substance, Anora, The Holdovers, Kneecap, Zone Of Interest) are still able to make a profit on their relatively modest budgets.

Yeah, the likes of A24 have been making plenty of good movies which make it worth me renewing my Limitless membership at Odeon cinemas.

A24 can do no wrong. Loves Lies Bleeding was one of my favourite films of last year. We also watched Heretic last weekend which was a lot of fun too.

Two more watched this weekend - Past Lives and The Super Mario Bros Movie.

The former an incredibly poignant portrait of longing and what it means to be human, the latter a rather violent - we were watching to ascertain whether our near four year could watch - and ‘problematic’ cash grab.

Watched The Gorge. Excellent mystery with a bit of action and romance for the first hour, then they did an exposition dump and just blew everything up. It's like the writer couldn't be arsed anymore.

Then tried watching Companion to help me forget, but that was just terrible. So slow and dull and the big plot twists are obvious miles away. It's supposed to be a dark comedy, but there's not one funny moment in it.

Going to go back to watching tv series. Been through From and Alice In Borderlands, both excellent. Just a shame I have to wait months for the next seasons now. Can't wait to get into Severance again once all the new episodes are out.

Am week to week on Severance, such a fantastic show.

Thats like asking kids not to be born........given they are largely the audience for that stuff.

Each to their own.........Like music, I work backwards rather than forward, always great films and music left undiscovered.

Last night was Hobsons choice..........Great film, never seen it......but fabulously acted.

Anything good out now in the cinema? Was thinking of going monday. Don't fancy marvel, haven't watched since the last spiderman.

Was so looking forward to the Gorge and I enjoyed it but it was a WTF happened ending
Alice in borderland is class

I saw A Real Pain last night. Really enjoyed it. Kieran Culkin (snarky brother from Succession) is excellent in it. Lots of great dialogues and shots.
