If he comes back to England in the summer he'll either take us or Emirates Marketing Project.

He doesn't get on with the management at chelsea
Ferguson is never going to leave man united
I don't think he would take a non-champions league team which will rule out arsenal
Liverpool are far too far up Kenny's backside to ever get rid of him
Saudi Sportswashing Machine.. i can't think of any reasons he wouldn't go there actually.. if they made the champions league..

Sure but we're in the best position which we've been for years both in terms of actual league position as well as the platform to attract a top manager (ie we will hopefully have CL football, have decent players etc) and we should NOT waste that simply just to be nice to a potentially up and coming British manager. Its not Levy's job to promote British managers - its his job to make the club as successful as possible. Appointing someone who isnt proven would be recklessly risky and utterly stupid in my view. If we appoint someone who balls things up we could well slip back into the pack and it could take us years to get back to where we are. We're in a position today where we have the opportunity to cement a place in teh top 4 and kick on to challenge for the league regularly. We should be attractive for genuinely top top class managers the world over - we're 3rd place in one of the top 2 leagues in Europe FFS!!! If we were ever going to attract a top boss it would be now

Just because we can attract a top manager doesn't mean it will be instant success just look at Chelsea over the past few years. The other thing which worries me is the long term issues getting a top guy like Mourinho can cause after he leaves. Every club he has been at he has spent big to get his players in and when he leaves the new manager can't make it work and buys a whole new set of top players. I just don't think we have the money to be able to go through that process without it really crippling us.

I think a name not on the poll but may be worth mentioning is Didier Deschamps...

His managerial record is not to be sniffed at.

Won the league with Monaco, and took them to their first ever champions League final.
Won the italian cup with Juventus, beating Inter in the final... He took over after they had been relegated due to the match fixing scandals and got them promoted back into Serie A..
Then he took over at Marseille in 2009 & in his first season he led them to their first league title for 18 years...

At Monaco he had a winning percentage of 49.38% (only losing 36 of 160 games)...
At Juventus he had a winning percentage of 70.45% (only losing 1 of his 44 games in charge)...
And at Marseille he currently has a winning percentage of 54.72% (only losing 21 of 106 games)..

You could be right there Pitbull ...I think he's a little like Cappello in that aspect ... It's important ,will have a look around see what I can find out lol

People are obssessed about finding the next Ferguson! Give up on it. For every up and coming manager (like Ferguson then was) who succeeds, there's plenty of people like Gerry Francis, Bruce Rioch, Paul Ince etc etc etc who have failed when they've moved somewhere bigger. We need to go for someone who gives us as much certinaty as possible with our next manager...like Hiddink, Van Gaal, Mourinho etc. Given we have CL football and some otp players, we can now attract that type of manager whereas a few years back we would have been limited to people like Rodgers, Moyes etc

This explains your dislike of Redknapp. You probably never felt he was of the required quality when we hired him and haven't let it go.

I might be wrong but, I thought Deschamps speaks barely any English (despite having played in England)?

I was pretty sure I'd seen him on tv in a CL pre-match interview speaking english .....perhaps not as going by the youtube videos of his interviews , none are in english .....
Not going down the Ramos road again so my bad for thinking of him , the poll and you done good ...

This is gonna go on til July. I've a feeling we could end up with whoever is flavour of the month from the Euros - Bilić, L?Âw, van Marwijk , Blanc or del Bosque.

This. Deschamps is a title winner, has brought a lot of talent through during his time in charge at Monaco, Juve and now Marseille, and most importantly, seems to be a man his players like and respect. Only niggle is he doesn't speak English, but I'm sure he would be more willing to learn it than hapless Juande.

Would be happy with Deschamps definitely.

Can he definitely not speak English, not learn a little when he was at Chelsea?

By the way I have his achievements down as never winning the league with Monaco and never wining the Italian cup with Juve..

Bilic would be a good outside bet, but I don't think he'd be our first choice, even if he did have a good tournament. Van Marwijk? After the World Cup final? If people dislike Mourinho for being occasionally pragmatic, how they can accept Marwijk is beyond me. So I don't think he'd be a candidate. Del Bosque could be a possibilty, but if he was available, I can see bigger clubs than us being interested in him.Blanc did well at Bordeaux, so he could be an option, as could Low. So, in summation, I think Blanc and Low are good options (more importantly, realistic options), but the rest are unlikely to happen imo.

In an unrelated ramble, how the hell did you get that umlaut in there?

It's hard to find proof, but I don't remember him speaking any English during his time at Marseille and Juve. However, I do remember that he admitted not being able to speak 'much' English in a UEFA.com article some years ago. Now, how you define 'much' (Is he better at speaking it than, say, Capello, or is he worse?) and how willing he is to learn the language will proably be the deciding factors if we choose to go for him.
