Manager Sack Watch

An nice, popular area FH

We had season tickets at work when I was in Palace and did a stint as their coordinator when I did my job with the PL so spent loads of time in Beckenham at their training ground

Do you mean the training ground that now taken over the area that used to be the Gambado's massive indoor child's play area?

Its certainly a roll of the dice, I live in Palace territory and the fans were really behind him as far as I could see, bottom 4 on spend in the last 5 years which probably tells story for where they are now with the players they have. Their recent run has been horendous too, looking at who they played, you would arguably have them losing all those post W/C and they have points versus United, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Liverpool

Palace haven't released their 2022 financials yet. When they do they will jump up the spend table as they spent £85m last season (with nothing coming in). Their 2021 financials showed they were spending 95% of their turnover on wages. They did release a few players though.

I think if they go down they'd be in real trouble.

I wouldn't know as they were there when I turned up, you could be right as there are two side of the road, the main TG is tucked behind some houses but the youth side has undergone some insane development, they have one of those HUGE indoor domes, have taken over some other buildigns too so you may be spot on

This, they have spent and their financials was highlighted in one of the reviews of the new set of rules coming in as one of the clubs that would struggle

Yeh for sure because they have a terrible tiny ground and poor income streams, the issue is that their moderate spend still puts them further down than 12th currently. I think he did a good job there and would have kept them up, someone will come in and keep them up and take that cream of applause so it could all just be abit of an illusion.

Lets see

Not a fan of Viera but that sacking is bad, you look at the squad he had to work with, Ward and Tomkins still in 2023, people say Conte punches above the squad, thats one man doing it this year.....misguided IMO

But then Olise and Eze are two of the best creative midfielders in the league. Guehi and Anderson are decent CBs. Johnstone is a good keeper. They should be a top 10 team.

I also think their spending under Vieira comes after years of not spending much, players aging and also not getting much in sales under previous managers.

I think he's been unlucky with timing of fixtures etc, but they should have waited to the end of the season and re-assessed. Only thing you could point the finger about is why their strikers have become noticeably worse

And they had ridiculous old FBS, no real striker or back up striker past Zaha. They spent 85m and had zero income and thats because they had no waste they could leverage for money and then their squad still has glaring gaps in it, that tells you its own story.

They are still having to roll out Tomkins, Ward, Milo, Ayew and a few others...some of them were barely PL level at their peak

Be interesting to see who they go for - the Celtic guy perhaps? Kompany and Carrick won't move at this stage of the season. And I can't imagine Gerrard or Lampard will be able to fall up again.

I use to watch youth football and Palace always had some outstanding youngsters but very few have come through, given they are not big spenders I would have thought more would have got a chance. Never see much of Eze is he injured?

Did they say when the prem are likely to introduce the new rules? Uefas are already in place but won't effect teams not in europe.

That's potentially down to poor management (or poor mentality from him). A few years ago he was a big hope in French youth football.

I'd say poor mentality from him rather than poor management.
He has had his chances tbf, but he looks to me like the bright lights of London and especially the eateries have done for him..

Never really as good as he was made out either, I mean on his day yeh but people call Son Streaky but he would do it for 3 games and nothing for 15 (not literally)

Never got the praise this guy has had/got over the years, spent more time bitching at refs and opposing players every time anyone came near him. Was very glad when there were rumours around about us going in for him that we did not do so.
