Lukaku

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Why would he want to join us anyway? Look at the state we're in. I'm pretty sure someone else will want to snap him up, like our beloved red neighbors, for instance.

Lol look at the state we are in? Er, we've been in the top 6 all season, despite a constant crippling injury list and bedding in a host of new signings. Not to mention one of Europes most reputable coaches almost certain to take over in the summer. This place really is littered with drama queens....

yeah, but, go back 12 months, it looked like we would be challenging for the title this season

we have fallen far below reasonable expectations

that's where the ire has come from

Who on earth expected us to be challenging for the title this season? There was only one player who had got us to where we were last season and that was Bale so how were we going to be challenging for the title this season? Even with Bale we came 5th. Reasonable expectations would have been to be challenging for a top 4 place which we were in the mix for until the past couple of weeks. Look at most peoples predictions on here before the season started and you will find a lot were saying 5th/6th.

We havent fallen far below reasonable expectations in the slightest....

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

my expectation was we'd keep bale and sign a decent forward

I expected that to be enough to get us closer to city and Chelsea

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

For sure, but keeping Bale was never in the equation once Madrid came knocking. Anyway my point was we are hardly 'in a state' and an attractive proposition for players....

Haha, drama queen, ok. We don't exactly come across as a very professionally run football club when we sign 7 new players in a summer and barely manages to get anything out of any of them over a season, sack our manager mid-term and replace him with a novice. The fact that we "might" get a top coach in during the summer might of course be a draw, but at this point, nothing is "almost certain" about that. A lot can happen between now and mid-July. We're not going to be in the Champions League, as opposed to a few other teams that quite possibly are going to be after him if Chelski decides to sell him.

I do hope we can get him, of course, but I don't think we currently look like a football club who's going to attract the top talent out there.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Sh1t, I didn't realise Lukaku was almost 1 in 2 over 142 senior league games at age of 20:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romelu_Lukaku

I knew he was a handful, but I didn't realise the end product was that good. Absolutely baffling that Mourinho - the man who made Drogba - seems ambivalent.

I just noticed on the fantasy football site that Lukaku and Defoe have played an identical number of minutes (4,144) in the Premier League over the past 3 seasons!

Lukaku
43 starts + 23 as sub
29 goals from 144 shots + 15 assists
143 minutes per goal

Defoe
41 starts + 32 as sub
22 goals from 143 shots + 7 assists
188 minutes per goal

and for comparison:

Torres (5,836 minutes)
63 starts + 29 as sub
18 goals from 129 shots + 22 assists
324 minutes per goal

Adebayor (5,689 minutes)
64 starts + 9 as sub
30 goals from 142 shots + 19 assists
190 minutes per goal

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

i assumed he'd rather play in sturridge - lukaku - suarez or in front of ozil and walcott than play up front with soldado. not to mention play in the champions league

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

If Chelsea don't want him there's going to be a queue of potential buyers for this lad. We'll probably suck a hind *** as usual.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Not too shabby for a 20 year old... =D>

@OptaJoe: 30 - Only 3 players (Suarez 52, Van Persie 37, Sturridge 31) have scored more league goals than Romelu Lukaku since August 2012. Presence.

Lukaku is Drogba 2.0, the frightening thing is he's still so young

He has the physical attributes, but does he have the same drive and hunger that Drogba did? Only time will tell, but if Jose is willing to let him go you have to wonder.

probably Mourinho feels Lukaku is just too young atm and not ready to lead his attack.....he tends to like men, players with experience

I think Mourinho values defensive work ethic over all other things, it's one of his few flaws, and the reason Lukaku isn't playing for Cheat$ki right now.

i know what you mean but im not sure reported targets Diego Costa or Radamael Falcao will work any harder defensively for Mourinho than Lukaku would.

Costa works very hard off the ball, he's like Suarez.
