Lennon's back baby!

Re: New Deal for Lennon

Great news. One of, if not my favourite player at the club and has been since he first signed. Hope he ends his career with us

Re: New Deal for Lennon

Has never been the same player since he was misused in the World Cup in South Africa. Seemed to sap all the confidence out of him, now he always takes the easy and predictable option.

His form was much better with Corluka behind him. They had a great partnership and understanding. Playing infront of Walker is a problem because Walker makes a lot of stupid runs and actually gets in the way most of the time. That said even on top form he has never consistantly provided assists and goals and there is nothing to suggest he will in the future.

Absolutely.

Re: New Deal for Lennon

However, once upon a time, there a Spurs player who took defenders on and beat them. Where has that player got to? Every time he got the ball, I was urging Aaron to get into the box, get into the box, force the defender to make a challenge, but he tended to just poke in an ineffectual cross, or lay the ball off. I really believe he will be gone in January. This extension and Defoes is just to inflate his fee.

Lennon's workrate

when i watch oter teams I see their wide players coming in and looking for work and making up the numbers to hunt the ball back ...........yesterday I genuinely (and it may be my mistake) dnt remember seeing him between the 15th minute to around the 60th minute, when we had a good spell again...........

i know he hugs the touchline giving us wigth and he can be effective (except that final ball) but is it me or does he do this literally while the game passes him by.?........i say this because perhaps his work rate has something to do with us being outnumbered at times , not pressing effectively..and allowing a brick team like norwich so much possession?
we crtiticise bale for coming in but at least he seems hungry for the ball and wants to take on some responsibility.

am i being unfair on Lennon or is he just another incomplete player which is indicative of why no england manager ever really fancies him?

i say this also because he now doesn't seem to ha ve much competetion ther than bentley!!

Re: Lennon's workrate

Lennon has a very specific job to do for Spurs - be available to launch an attack when required.

He would be unable to do this if he was constantly tracking-back.

If you want someone who will do nothing but run non-stop for 90 minutes, I suggest you look for a cross-country champion instead.

i a sorry but i was looking for more analysis that that. you seeemingly dont undestand what other really good wingers do....to sugest its ok to have a specific job- hich he doesnt even go that well- in a team game it seems you are just making excuses for the lad

Re: Lennon's workrate

He does nothing for me these days, gets the ball in decent positions then all he does is lay it back, on his day unplayable, unfortunately his days are not enough to justify a guaranteed starters role

Are you talking about when we have the ball or when we don't have it?

I've always thought that Lennon's work-rate is excellent without the ball - he always seems to track his opposing full-back and help out his right-back.

If you're talking about when we're in possession, then yes - I think he doesn't come inside that much. He's an old-school winger, who wants to hug the touchline, beat his man and get a cross into the box. I actually think he can be more effective than Bale at coming inside, because he looks much better to me in tight spaces with his quick change of direction.

But he's not playing a wide role anymore, he's being asked to tuck inside and support there.

i would have to agree with this marky...do you think its ability ie he isnt actually that good skillwise or do you think he is lazy?? i think its a combination hence why mre frustrating

but my point is he isnt seen for long periods..so i am not sure he does this. effectivvely..if i am wrong tell me....it just bothers me he seems to be a guaranteed starter and doesnt do enough..

i was thinking both..when we have it does he go insde and offer himself enough rather than wait for it?? and withiout the ball i really dont see this tracking but i ill watch him closely again..

Re: Lennon's workrate

Given AVB's habit of pulling players over for a quiet word during the game, I imagine Lennon (and the other players) is pretty much playing to orders at the moment. Which suggests he has been told to stand out wide and stay there. Although I did notice that when play moved over to the left wing when Bale had the ball, and everyone tracked across, then Lennon would move off of his line towards the centre of the pitch.

Positionally I thought the biggest problem was the movement of the forward(s). Defoe has yet to learn that in tippy tappy high pressing football the lone striker's job is not just to wander into the box and loiter there in the hope of getting a chance. They have to come and get the ball, make intelligent runs, link up play, and get in the box and score goals. (Which is a lot to ask admittedly)
