Jose Mourinho - SACKED

listen i back Jose and still hope he's the man to bring us success.

I'm sorry, i don't buy the "squad us awful" shtick. Defence is a bit shabby, but a team with Hojberg, Ndombele, Dele, Son, Kane, Bergwijn, Moura, Bale, should be good enough to provide on the pitch.

I take one look at United's squad and don't think it's any better than ours, definitely a worse manager, and yet they're 3pts above Liverpool and we continually drop points in the same way. That is on Jose, you might not like it, but that's the fact. He needs to change something, that's why he's paid the big bucks.

It's not on ANYONE else.

Do you think Jose is still desperately trying to bring in further reinforcements to improve the squad this window or do you think he is reasonably happy with what he has? It would be interesting to know. Maybe he thinks We need need better CBs, Doesn't rate Winks, Wants a better RB etc. It's sort of hard to judge someone until they have something close to what they want, I mean he wanted Hojbjerg badly when none of the other big clubs wanted him and he is so integral to the way we play is almost the glue that is preventing this side from capitulating anymore than it already does. Maybe he has already said to Levy 'Look, There are still a lot of holes in this squad. We need x, y and z and we also need to shift him, him and him because they are not good enough.'

I have no doubt that he knows we need to further reinforcements and he will do just that. I know a few of " i want it and i want it now" posters laugh at the phrase " a work in progress" but that IS what we are.

Ignoring Marine the last three games I think we've looked better. Deservedly beat Leeds, deservedly beat Brentford, deserved to beat Fulham, but were wasteful.
True. The balance of attack and defence was better in those games.

Fulham though could easily of thought at the final whistle 'we should have won that', and i dont think 'deserve' is the right word simply for the reason the way we went about large parts of the second half. Id say we were unlucky not to be further ahead by half time.

Our squad isn't awful. Has anyone said that or anything similar to that?

We have some weaknesses in our squad though. And Mourinho has to sort that out tactically, in training or in the transfer market.

I still think there's quite a bit more to come from the players already here. There might be solutions to be found this season within the squad. But it might require a couple of new signings before we really can start functioning as Mourinho wants us to.

We are functioning how Mourinho wants us to? we're just not getting the results he wants - what do you think will change in our style of play or tactics with another transfer window behind us?

Beating a team in the bottom 3 is not a masterclass its par for the course.

And yes, each and every one of those players should be the in the team in last night's circumstances ahead of Sissoko

Doesn't matter how many chances we miss if we still decide to to sit off on a 1 goal lead.

Sorry Billy but surely if you admit we missed chances but think we sat on a one goal lead is that not a
contradiction?

Phases of play - first half was fine no dramas. 2nd half we shifted our approach and allowed them back in by sitting off and letting them push forward in to our half more and more, which led to the goal. It wasn't the same uber defensive set up as before but we still altered our game and paid the price

But what are these magical transfers going to do? We have two of the best finishers in the league statistically, so don't see us signing more attacking options there.

However, if you're not attacking as a team, and relying on goals from only two players and not working on tactic variety, soon you'll get found out in the same types of games and it'll cost you. Just like it has for us each time.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

fair enough but do you admit we missed at least two good chances which should have been put away? And if so we can not be accused of sitting on a one goal lead?

We had chances at 1 nil to double our lead.

That doesn't change the fact that when when we eventually sat off Fulham early in the second half we done so with only a one goal lead...

On that particular issue, a new signing could bring more creativity into the team in other areas to make us play better.

Someone who can do the job defensively next to Hojbjerg, but be significantly better on the ball.

A centre back where we don't have to choose between a clear lack of pace (forcing us deeper) or lack of quality on the ball.

More creativity from wide positions than we're currently getting from Bergwijn, Moura, Lamela, Sissoko or Bale. Though I still think there's a lot more to come from Bergwijn.

Cool - out of interest what score did you think it was when we sat off Fulham more and invited them on to us?

To be honest mate i thought we created a few chances after we scored and on other day Son could have had two goals, as for sitting off i really do not think it was that much of a difference the whole game. I suppose during the second half we may have not taken as many chances but i hardly call that sitting off.

But as we say Stop! Hammer time.

Play better. Fewer obvious weaknesses in our team.

We're often relying on Sissoko in central midfield. We show a clear shortcoming in both keeping the ball and creating chances. I find it surprising how an upgrade on him wouldn't be expected to result in us playing better. Is there a more limited central midfielder in terms of quality on the ball at any club in or near the top four?

When Fulham scored the possession was something like 65 - 35 in their favour for the half, which was a reversal of the first half where we pressed on with intent for a second. To me that shows a clear difference in how we came out and approached the game after half time, up until the equaliser, where it was a lot more cautious and safety-first.

Or you could say that Fulham came out in the second half and pushed/pressed harder which changed the stats on it. As i said we are going around in circles.

Fulham changed their approach too, right?

Perhaps we're good in some phases of play and not very good in other phases of play so that when the opponents change their approach we look worse as a result?

Dealing with pressing has been an issue for the team long predating Mourinho. It's also a rather difficult thing to deal with full stop. To me the solution is more press resistant players.

But wrt to approach and tactics you don't expect things to change?

He could play Winks more regularly against weaker teams, he could play Dele, he could play Lo Celso and Ndombele together there are options there for him to show that he wants a better player on the ball to really see his game plan work - but he chooses to not use those available to him. That says a lot.

They didn't though, they were allowed the time and space in their own half to build up play and we purposefully sat off them as they progressed the ball in to our half - they weren't pushing up winning the ball off us in our own half - we sat and watched as they came at us, as usual.

But yeah you're right, going round in curcles here
