Jan Vertonghen

Interesting that the players didn't think Jan would be a worthy captain or vice captain: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ricio-Pochettino-asked-for-teams-opinion.html

I don't think it's specifically to do with Verts. I just think Poch, as well as observing, asked each player who they felt the leaders in the squad were (excluding Dawson, Sandro and Holtby), and Kaboul and Lloris came out top (I think Ade was a motivational decision). Verts just didn't get many votes, the same as the other 21 players.

Or was it simply that Kaboul came top with Lloris and Adebayor the two players who received the next most votes?

Oh wait so the players voted in Ade as vice captain? The player they have major beef with according to some on here? Jeez man this guy is really hated...must be his lack of effort.

The captaincy should have gone to Lloris. He's our best player and he's captain of one of the 10 or so best teams in international football.

EDIT: Plus who's to say Kaboul will always be first choice? I think it's pretty much guaranteed Lloris will be as long as he is here.

I genuinely believe he ties our whole defence together. Easily our best centre back and being left footed and having strong intelligence means we look so much more comfortable with him back there. There must be something going on behind the scenes but can't we just use and get the most out of him for this probable last season? I really can't handle watching Kaboul without him.

I'm with you mate, JV should be playing every premier game without fail. When he played with Kaboul at Arsenal we looked very solid but when Kaboul was left on his own against Emirates Marketing Project we were all over the place. He played for belgium last monday so not sure why fazio got the nod ahead of him on saturday?

Watching the highlights on MotD2, why was Jan strolling over to Rose just as the whistle for the 2nd half was being blown? As Kaboul then shifts a couple of yards to his left, to fill the gaping hole in the middle of the pitch, which means he's too far away from Dier to be able to help Eric when he gets caught out by the long ball over the top.

AC Milan are ready to make an ambitious January bid for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen.

The 27 year-old is out of favour at Spurs under coach Mauricio Pochettino starting five Premier league games this season.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Belgian could entertain an offer from the Rossoneri in the January window.

Milan are still looking to reinforce their defence and see the former Ajax captain as an ideal defensive recruitment.

Vertonghen can also play at left-back which would address a further need after Pablo Armero has failed to impress.

Pressure from the Belgian national team to find first team football could help force through a transfer to Italy.

They're more than welcome to him, but not getting my hopes up based on this exquisite piece of journalism.

Not sure why you think he's a worse option than Chiriches. His attitude may be questionable at times but so was Berbatov's and our fans still idolise him. He's the best defender we have, not saying much admittedly.

I don't think he is worse than Chiriches, but neither do I think he is any better than the rest. If people want to blame poor mentalities and lack of effort for our our woes, look no further than this man.

I agree Verts is still our best CB choice atm but I think Fazio will eventually be our best defender once properly settled. I also think Chiriches isnt that bad, despite a couple of obvious stinkers...

verts is our best CB in the same way that Ade is our best CF and Dembele is our best CM, all the ability, all the physical attributes, sadly none of the mental requirements
