Im furious, absolutely disgusted

Tipping in the US is ridiculous, I was at Coachella Festival a few years back, went up to the bar, asked for a beer, the guy picks up one of the pre poured pints approx 2 yards behind him, I give him the exact money and he has the cheek to ask 'what, no tip?'. 'For picking up a pre poured pint and passing it to me? No chance!'. then he mumbled some crap under his breath. The fudger didnt even pour it, they had machines doing that ffs!

Lol, if you got a quid for every beer you passed over at the UK festivals I'd change job in the summer!

He said: “Basically they just come in and pig out. We have put up with them for two years but I’ve had enough.

Er, its an "all you can eat place" - THAT is your selling point!

“They spoil everything and they are in such a hurry to beat everyone to the food. We are supposed to be a buffet but they eat everything out of the bowls before people can get there.

Then refill the bowls so everyone can eat "all they can"

“We just can’t keep doing this.”

Then i suggest a change in business direction

The manager complained the pair would only ever drink water rather than ordering drinks and claimed they would never pay the optional service
charge.

Learn how to understand the definition of the statement
Ever considered your customers don't like any other drinks than water? Maybe they don't want to spoil the taste of the food?

He said: “We are not a charity. We are a business. It’s our restaurant and we can tell people not to come back if we don’t want them to.”

Yes, a business that offers "all you can eat". Don't make a claim if you can't deliver - that is what the trades description act is there for.

to quote their website;
Then repeat as many times as you wish!.....All for a set price of £12!

The kind of brick I go through every time I go out. I will not miss tipping and I will not miss taxes not being included in prices when I move home.

I agree with the arguments that its better that the employee pays a fair wage and they don't have to rely on tipping. However, if that is the culture of the place you are visiting, who is being penalised by insisting that you tip the way you do at home. Isn't it more reasonable to conform to the customs of the place where you are a guest? The same goes for people visiting Britain.

We aint talking about women covering up in Muslim countries!

This is people taking the tinkle, plain and simple and i'm more than happy to tell them to fudge themselves.

Oh I do tip. I just fudging hate that I HAVE to. Just like I'd probably hate certain things about living in England, and even at home in Australia.

How much do people have to tip in the U.S? In the example that Armenia Spur pointed out, it did seem rather strange to tip someone for the service of a pre-poured drink. Also, is the person serving you really allowed to ask for the tip? Seems very strange.

I went to a Chinese all you can eat, ordered prawn toast for starters, liked them so ordered more as a side to my main dish. They put about 20 on there, and thought nothing of it. I ate about Half sharing some out. There were a few left over.

Received the bill and they charged me for the ones I didn't eat because I didn't 'eat them all' (even though it was all you can eat and was part of the all you can eat menu) - fudge THAT I said, and you can stick that service charge up your ass with your wok. I never saw any terms and conditions and had that taken off the bill, they have lost themselves a good customer, i'll be going to the new one down the road.

Everyone is trying to put their hands in your pocket.

Sounds like someone chancing their arm, playing on the perceived 'fact' that 'everyone tips in the US of A so you should tip for what I am doing now' I find it strange that the US of A effectively relies on their staff to beg for money from customers because they are being paid too low wages.

Based on the strict terms, its seems like they are right. All you can eat for the fixed price. The ones you didn't eat are not part of the deal, as you didn't eat them. I think they have the right policy as you got charged extra for wasting food.

You appear to have missed the part where it says, 'part of the all you can eat menu'

Thanks anyway Sherlock

Although, itsays eat as much as you like, if these two lumps are hogging the buffet and making it an unpleasant experience for others, don't see how they can feel hard done by. Picture tells a thousand words, they would benefit from a trip to the salad bar

But you didn't eat them, so you ordered more than you could eat. Therefore the extras were not part of the "all you can eat". Get it? Otherwise what is stopping you from ordering 20 plates of it and then only eating one?

I think you are the one who missed the point. As you invoke the name Sherlock you should look at the logic. How does the food not eaten qualify under all you can eat? There is a fixed charge for all you can eat and an additional charge for food you take and don't eat.

ultimately that would depend on how many he asked for, and how many he received.

Exactly, did I ask for 20? No I didn't, and the menu didnt say any left overs are chargeable. If you go to a buffet, put food on your plate and then some jobsworth comes over and says sorry there are some crumbs left over, you now must pay for what you have not eaten, how would you react? I expect Ben and jts will take the shafting, or they are very poor wum's
