I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Too right we didnt. He was 26m + bonuses. We'll get 20m ish back if we're selling him. Roma bought him for 11m.
This isn't bentley.

And Lamela played a sublime ball to Davies that put him in in the first half. Dont remember Chadli creating anything for him.

C'mon this isn't Bentley but than he cost half the price I would say we will lose about the same amount of money on them both who the **** is going to pay 20m for Lamela you're in dream land mate at least we will always have Bentley from the halfway line!

No pace, no strength, no intelligence, can't tackle, can't beat a man, not a great touch, passing and shooting average at best.

Serious question, what do the "there's a player in there" people see?

How much does this guy weigh? 4 f#cking stone. The amount of times he gets bundled off the ball does my fruit in.

Rightly subbed at HT for me, but wanted him to be replaced by Lennon rather than Chadli. Dont even know why he got the nod over AL in the first place

my problem with lamela at the moment is that he is not a wide man - he is not a player to be hugging the touchline - he doesn't have the skill set to do that role. problem is we are expecting him to hug the line and whip in a cross whereas his natural game is to cut inside. that youtube video of his goals with roma - he more plays around the box.

i was sitting in row 2 block 35 of the park lane today and could clearly see everything in front of me - he is a good player - we just don't use him to his natural strengths.

sorry, don't agree with this, he's not a good player IMO. he's a show pony who occasionally has moments where it works out for him.

typical "flair" player who get's the ball in a good area tricks past an opponent, decides that wasn't enough for him so tries to trick past him again, then he loses the ball and any attacking impetus is lost. A good player would have just recieved the ball and correctly made the next pass quickly. a very good player would have done the first trick then played an incisive defence splitting pass resulting in a goal.

was a waste of a shirt today. far and away the worst player on the pitch. lennon should have started ahead of him and should do for the near future.

I hope he can be better and become a player for us but i just don't see it happening.

I would say that Lennon must be very very tired given being on the fringes for so long and then playing 3, 4 games back to back. As for Lamela, it's becoming a very sad situation, one I hope can be rectified with time and patience. The question will be whether his confidence can survive.

Sadly I don't think we'll get anything like that, very few clubs pay that kind of money and it's a limited market. No English club would be interested and only the 2nd tier Spanish clubs. Only the top Italian clubs might be prepared to pay a bit extra. I honestly think we'll sell him for around 15 Mil + add ons. He's a player we're gonna take quite a hit on I think.

How is that real different than what i said?

Lamela was a 10 million gamble. A decent gamble considering what he did in Italy.

The guy raised his profile with that goal.
Inter are after him

Diego Simeone at Atletico wanted to pay £21 plus for him in the summer

Better players than him have failed to make it in England.

It would be a mistake to sell him now.

1. He is actually slightly better than other options in the squad imo. Chadli's finishing and Lennon's natural width and speed put them close. But Lamela has more skill and more potential. It's a case of getting him comfortable and harnessing his ability. Lamela is also Chadli and Lennon's junior by 3 and 5 years respectively.

2. You wouldn't get back what you spent at the moment.

The more interesting question is what do you do to get Lamela to fulfill his potential?

I didnt see him for Roma so I am not in a position to say but what gives the impression he has 'more skill'? well any skill... more potential? Potential is meaningless if it isnt realised and the factors dont allow that. As far as im concerned from what ive seen any potential will not be realised in this league, it just doesnt suit him and vice versa.

He really isn't.

Even today you could see he has ability to dribble the ball in tight areas. It was forced today and his runs didn't come off, it wasn't a good performance overall. We lacked the pass and move of previous games to open up more space for him. Look at Lamela's assists this season, and even today he made a few things happen carrying the ball towards the box. Lennon would have received the ball and just passed it back again after being close down. We know this as we have seen it happen so many times in the past. We saw Chadli come on and first thing he gets some space at the edge of the box...and fluffed his lines, lost the ball. I would bet Lamela would have been able to jink and get a pass off at least if not run past his man into the box. Did Chadli do anything more than Lamela did today?

This issue was, we needed Mason, Bentaleb, Kane, Dier to provide pivots to pass and move off. Lennon and Chiriches did that effectively with Eriksen. Today we just lacked sufficient movement. Palace shut us down. Poch needs look into why and address it. We showed that we can ping the ball about and create space for whoever has the place. For me Lamela should be in the team.

Lamela should simply play in cup games now, bench option for late in game in PL

If no improvement by end of season, sell and take the loss.

Who has the most assists in our team?

Im guessing Lamella.

I'm also sure at least one and possibly two are from corners

Who has lost the ball the most in our team? I'm sure I read it was Lamella

Who has fouled the most in our team? Again it's lamella

The guy really has nothing for this league. He hasnt shown anything to merit a start. He can't plah wide and through the middle he runs into people

Lennon has two assist in a lot less than half of Lamellas games according to ESPN

...and so does Rose. Is he the answer? Do you think than Lennon would have made room to play where Lamela didn't? We've seen Lennon play in these types of games for many years. He gets the ball, is smartly closed down and he passes the ball backwards. Or he doesn't show for the ball and ends up being isolated from the game. Lennon can be a key player for us, if he can pass and move. He is good defensively far far better than Lamela, but Lamela can improve. What Lamela does, albeit unsuccessfully half the time at the moment, is take people on. Try things. Run at defences when there's nothing on, and pull in defenders. I was in favour of dropping Lamela for Chadli about 5 games back. As he has not done the above well enough, especially for the amount of defensive errors he makes - he cost us a couple of games due to defensive blips. But I changed my mind. He is better than other options. He needs to learn, play more one-twos to open space, he needs to settle and not try to be a 30m player (and we need to judge him as a promising young player rather than a 30m player). When you get hauled off at HT it can't do his confidence much good.

If he can improve his defending, he deserves his place. He can be a tricky player for the opposition and he will improve if allowed to settle.

Costa for Chelsea and Aguero for City And Sanchez for Arsenal all have been dispossessed more than him.
Messi and Neymar are the two most dispossessed at Barcelona.

What does this stat mean? He tries something.

And what have they down what he hasn't.... They have scored goals!!!!

Lamella has 4 assists to his name and **** all goals. He has been outscored by eriksen and Chadli who okay te same role

He has 4 assist and as I said I think two of them are corners

Lennon offers width, pace a defensive cover. Defenders hate pace... But live players who run at them without releasing the ballad you can tackle them. Lamella takes 12 touches when 2 would do. I've counted it at games.

He is clueless at this level and plays on his own

He is a long long way from deserving a start. It's no coincidence that our best performance came when he wasn't playing and we had width, pace and penetration
