Harry Kane MBE

I love your countdown. Long may it continue.

Hope not. Hopefully it's short may it continue, before then launching on to a new tally that continually spirals upwards. After all, isn't it better that he reaches his tally for last season, sooner rather than later?

The more we look after him, the less likely he is going to want to leave. I think offering him a new contract is the right thing to do and it sends the right message to the rest of our youngsters. Perform and you will be rewarded. Perform consistently and you will consistently be rewarded.

That would be his third new contract since Poch took over. An average of a new one every 5 months!

Have to say I think he deserves it though. 41 goals in 70 games is very impressive for a player of his age.

The thing that is most impressive for me isn't his goals, it's the fact he's always fit to play. I mean seriously, how many games has he missed through injury the past two seasons? We are still crying out for some backup, I don't think Son or Clinton will be sufficient....
Please don't jinx it

FourFourTwo's Top 100:

#81 Alex Texeira
#82 Claudio Marchisio
#83 Blaise Matuidi
#84 Felipe Anderson
#85 Mauro Icardi
#86 William Carvalho
#87 Marco Veratti
#88 Dimitri Payet
#89 Javier Pastore
#90 Harry Kane

Wind the clock back a little over 12 months and the idea of Kane being included in such a list would seem fanciful. Insane, even. However, with 24 Premier League goals to his name in 2015 – eight since late September, there can be no doubt the London-born striker is more than a one-season wonder.

He started the year with a stunning brace against Chelsea that displayed his power, poise and precision, before writing himself into Spurs folklore by scoring another double against north London rivals Arsenal. An England call-up followed, as did the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award (not to mention an appearance on the cover of FourFourTwo).

After a slow start to 2015/16 – perhaps the result of a summer break shortened by a post-season tour of the far east, the U21 European Championship in the Czech Republic, and Spurs’ pre-season jaunts to the USA and Germany – he is back on the goal trail. And not a moment too soon, with Mauricio Pochettino's ever-improving side pushing for a Champions League spot and England heading to France for the Euros.

It fits the meritocracy which Poch uses so well.

Maybe, but #76 Memphis Depay certainly isn't one.

Depay is the wish list one, most of the list is a collection of past glories (players who once were at that level, but not on recent form)

If Kane repeats last season, he's in rare company (30+ goals, 2 seasons in a row in England), to me that would immediately put him in top 50.

True, but I hope we're leaving room for future expansion in his wages. Give him new contracts too quickly and eventually we'll hit our wage cap (given that our other players will want raises as well), and with no more room for expansion, we won't be able to offer him better terms when he gets antsy.

With luck, he'll still be in our colours when we finish paying off the new stadium: if he plays his own cards right, he could be the first player we offer 150 - 200k wages to.
