Harry Kane MBE

This for me as well, he is making the wrong decisions but its his second season and it was always going to be hard for him to follow up with the same results as last season.

Maybe, but interestingly SSN came up with a stat yesterday suggesting he's averaging almost exactly the same number of attempts per game now as when he was scoring a goal a game last season. It went something like this: in twelve games leading up to his England debut he scored 14, in the 12 games since he's scored two from almost exactly the same number of attempts.

Remember that first goal against Chelsea last NYD? If it had gone the other side of the post wouldn't we have said it was too rash and he should have laid it off?

Sometimes they go in, sometimes not, but if you don't buy a ticket ...

Without a doubt i agree with that, but he has taken a few shots this season when others were better placed. No one is suggesting he should not shoot but when he is struggling ( for whatever reason) it is sometimes better to play in others who are better placed.

Hopefully I get to eat humble pie but Kane's body language says otherwise. I do pray fervently that Son and Njile can bring strong competition to that position.

That may well be a part of it but in my mind it's because - as some have suggested - he's just lost that critical bit of confidence and instinctive belief when shooting, causing him to either hesitate that split second too long or conversely take an early pot shot instead of lining it up properly.

Either way I wouldn't want to see him reduce the number of attempts he makes. Even if someone is occasionally better placed, chances are the pass will be cut out or the player he passes to will also miss anyway. He's proven he has it in him so let's just hope next match one gets deflected in off his backside whilst he's tying up his bootlaces to once again open up the floodgates. :D

I think he'll be sharper soon, I think the pressure of being the main goalscorer for a team at our level at such a young age could be affecting his game. Once we sign a striker and Njie & Son get some games, the burden will ease a bit. Same goes for Eriksen Imo.

Kane is surely being affected by the England syndrome. He had scored 14 goals in 12 matches before playing for England. Since then, he has scored only 2 goals in 12 matches. We should ask compensation from England, for turning a reliable striker into a struggling one.

Surely?

I wouldn't be too worried about Kane. He's got the drive, still got the skills, just been a bit unlucky. He'll get there soon. I just hope he stays injury free.

Edit - just read the first few pages of this thread - quite a funny read. Imagine someone from now telling those guys "two years from now, our only striker will be Harry Kane." :D

That's exactly why we should not write off any of our other youngsters.

No of course not, but let's be realistic, lightening seldom strikes twice and all that.

Using Wikipedia's stats I've put together this list of home-grown strikers / attacking inside forwards that come to mind in my 60-odd years as a Spurs fan. Represents about one per decade, however pre-Kane you have to say it's hardly inspiring. (If I've missed one or two please scream!)

Frank Saul: 37 goals in 116 League appearances incl as sub, (roughly one every 3)
Chris Jones: 37 in 164 (roughly one every 4.5)
Terry Gibson: 4 in 18 (about one every 4.5, fared much better with Coventry and Wimbledon)
Mark Falco: 68 in 174 (roughly one every 2.5)
Nick Barmby: 21 in 89 (roughly one in four, but not an out-and-out striker anyway)
Harry Kane: 24 in 49 - so far (one every two)

Lee Barnard failed to score for us in his three League appearances with us but went on to do quite well elsewhere, mainly in the lower leagues.

I think you have missed some youngsters like King and Stephen Carr? Could also argue Peter Crouch?

But I do take your point, there are no guarantees. That is applied to transfers as well as youngsters. I will also say that Man United had that dream crop of youngsters. Southampton have a regular supply line. Ajax have a regular supply line. It can be done, and if you believe what people here who have observed our youngsters such as @Yoof, our lot are pretty damned good. So given we are where we are, I say let's create the atmosphere that will allow these youngsters to perform and not be intimidated.

I think one thing Levy has proved himself able to do is to spend to avoid relegation or bottom half finish i.e. the January window when Redknapp came in.

EDIT - I realise you were talking about attacking talent in which case it's only Crouch that I can remember.

Yep, Crouch, the one that got away.
