General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

He did say that wanting to leave Liverpool wasn't about money. They could have just offered a small upgrade on what he got there. Not like they had massive competition for him.
Of course he'd be stupid not to try and get the maximum he can, everyone does that when going for a new job. But doesn't mean it was the primary factor for joining, of course it helps I'm not denying that...

Brenton tried to get sterling on the plane to go on the pre-season tour. He even offered him a free fly-box for kids with a drawing book, coloured pencils and everything....

As for Emirates Marketing Project, Talk about wasting 49 mill! But on the bright side , both the bin dippers and city get weakened with this transfer!

the thing is, city can't sign him for all that money, stick him in the first team and pay him less than players on equal footing, the ball boys at City are on 100k a week, he has to slot onto the pay curve, that's the going rate for a first team squad player

this could be a risdale/Johnson situation and it might not be about the money at all, Emirates Marketing Project is a far far better club to at than Liverpool, but then again so is Oldham athletic

I remember a few pieces of ITK saying the DM priorities were Schneiderlin, Imbula and Kramer....Kraer apparently most unlikely, so you'd hope there are other DM alternatives beyond McCarthy who are being sweet-talked by Baldini, Levy and co...

How about Carrick on a free or nominal fee, better than the lot of 'em.
Allows our other young CMs time and experienced player to learn from.

+1 that Carrick is *still* Man Utes best player. How he doesn't get the credit he deserves is beyond me.

Imbula would be a good signing for us - we desperately need to upgrade on Mason IMO (though he would make an excellent squad player)

Fixed it.

Now that Schneiderlin is apparently gone, anyone fancy following Rorschach's suggestion and going in hard for Clasie? We couldn't rile Saintsweb with Schneiderlin, but we definitely would be able to with Clasie. :p Plus, he'd be what we need, imo

Not convinced about that, he is a decent passer of the ball, but he won't help our defence much.

Its not mindblowing. Most of you dont realise how much more money has come into the game in the last couple of years. City revenue will soon be 400m. They can afford to pay Sterling 10m a year.

TV rights keep doubling every 2-4 years, that said, Citi's 400M revenue is not legitimate.

Honestly, stupid deal for everyone involved

- Yes, money for Sterling, but he will not live up to the price tag, and far more likely will stunt his development with the amount of bench time he's likely to see.
- Not the WC game changer Citi needs
- They could have bought 5 English quota players for the money
- Even Pool lose out, their best striking option, and Rodgers will fudge away the money.

Probably the only real winner is Sterling's bank account and QPR.
